Probably trading for 350z...

So, I know I'm going to get a lot of slaps for wanting to move away from the TSX... I know I've been talking about going to MT TSX, but I would rather switch. To a 350z. Now, can anybody with an unbiased view tell me the ups and downs of the car? I would go to a 350z forum, but they are just gonna tell me only the amazing things..

(Specifically, when I sya ups and downs, I mean in comparison to the TSX..)

2 less doors and alot less room. But I presume that doesn't matter to you.

- Worse fuel economy.
- More expensive maintenance.
- Higher insurance premiums.

But what the hell you only live once.

DUDE!!! do it! I just test drove one because of my friend wanted to get one. I loved it!~ I had a blast time drving it. If you can affort to pay high insurance and maintenance then do it. You will like it. I thought the interior was just whatever but man! its all about driving!!

blind spot. You can't see nothing in the Z but the front. And the cheezy plastic interior is horrible.

I would suggest you go get a G35 instead. Same car but a whole lot better interior. LED tail signals, really nice leather seats, etc...

They are pretty sick. I've never driven one, but I've always liked the way they look when I see one fixed up.

You might want to post in "Car Talk" in the off topic forum too. Should be able to get some more info there.

before i bought the TSX, i was looking into a used 04/05 350 Touring model with Navi.

the Z is great. my former co-worker has one and it's a blast. And my current coworker has a modded one which is pretty slick. Anyway, obviously you're talking about 2 completely different cars.

The TSX is a performance sedan while the Z is a sports coupe. You're obviously gonna get way more power and speed on the Z cause of it's VQ V6 and also better handling and driving mechanics as it's RWD and near 50/50 weight distribution.

However, the Z is a little heavy for a car of its kind and so you don't get that feeling of speed. and the interior bits are somewhat cheap altho they improved it for the 06. Older models had rattles, but so do TSXs... styling is subjective but i think the exterior is gorgeous. the interior is a little drab but not bad. hope this helps a bit...

but the big problem for me was practicality. The car is a 2seater only and it barely stores anything. you might want to look into the G35 coupe but the prices get higher for those and i cant afford it at the moment

I drove my friend's 350Z when he got it. Lots of fun, but zero rear (and little side) visibility. A tiny trunk, no backseat, etc... you're giving up a lot for that engine. I was glad to get back into my TSX (6MT) afterwards.

I would be very careful of the 350z. A lot of the earlier ones have had huge problems with the alignment and tire wear.

Also, make sure you drive the car extensively before deciding. I have driven a number of 350z and was never all that impressed with the driving dynamics or the interior feel. Make sure it's the car for you and don't get caught up in the hype.

Only in a straight line.

Why not look at the legacy GT ? Comfort with the speed that can take out a 350z.

You seriously think that a Legacy could compete with a Z in the power department? Wow, that comes as a shock.

Why is that a shock? The Z does 0-60 in the low 5 second range, same as the Legacy GT. Plus, the Legacy's turbo motor has easy mod potential for a lot of power with very little cost.

ya i'm starting to get a little uneasy about the z.. i went on my350z.com and just about every person on the forum is saying that they have to change their tires every 5k miles because of the alignment/tread problem, and nissan won't do ANYTHING about it. so.. ahh...

i LOVE the g35 with the exception of one thing - i dont like the taillights! i know its dumb.. but i dunno, they look wierd to me.

everything else about the z - small trunk space, two seater, thats fine with me. and the interior - i don't find it disguisting. granted, its not as good as the tsx (god).

ya, im going to look at g35's as well. but i have heard rumors that they suffer the same alignment/tread problem as the z? is this true? anybody here have a g35?

oh finally, do you guys think i could pick up a used 04/05 g35 MT for somewhere between 21-23k? it doesn't have to have navi or anything.

More of a reason to get one.. people dont expect it when you blow the doors off their "sports" car.

0-60 - 5.1
1/4 Mile 13.7@ 99.2

R&T

This is stock... add new software and

*edit* ahh his price range is 21-23k? Legacy GT might be out of that range.

Like someone said earlier, apples to oranges.
I had a TSX rental the other day, it was nice on the inside, the outside is sharp, has great amenities and handles great. My major problem was that it has 0 power. You step on the gas pedal and you have the illusion of speed, but as soon as you look at the speedo you realize that you are still driving a 4 cylinder. I personally, don't think it is worth its asking price.

The 350z is a great car as well, although seems a bit heavy sometimes. In comparison to the G35, it handles slightly better, but you don't notice a difference in speed at all(they are so close in power/tq rating). Personally, I don't like the rear of the 350z, it is droopy like some saggy tit. The G35c has sexy lines and a great body. The interior of the Z is cheap, but only slightly cheaper than the G35c. I haven't driven the 06 G35c and I have heard they have improved it somewhat.

In the Z, I didn't like the placement of the cupholders, it seemed kind of high. It has a sportier feel than the G35c though, perhaps it is just the seats. Space is almost non existant in either of them. Both of their trunks are really small, so if you transport a lot of people/shit then you don't want either of them. If you are really considering the 350, I would suggest looking at the G35c, it is only a few G's more. The G35c has a better resale value anyway and just has that added "PIMP" factor . My friend has a 350z and my gf has a G35, neither have complained about an alignment problem. My friend changes tires often only because he likes to do burnouts.

The Legacy GT is a fun car to drive...but you can't really compare it to either the G35c or the 350z. It feels zippy, handles well and is an excellent value for the money, but it is boring to look at. I would place it in the category against an accord, tsx, altima, camry etc. Don't misunderstand, the Legacy GT is a great car though, I would own it before the accord, altima, camry and tsx.

IMO, if you want a REAL sports car and don't car one bit about the unpractical nonsense that come with them, get a used E46 M3. You'll still have a backseat, still have the high-revving feeling, and be able to smoke 95% of the cars out there.

My co-worker has an 04 G35c MT. No issues regarding alignment or tread. And yes, you can pick up an older G for 21-23K. Their resell value is lower than I expected.

Sorry, I would hardly consider the TSX a performance sedan.
The 330 is a performance sedan; the G35 is a performance sedan; the IS350 is a performance sedan.
The Accord V6 is more of a performance sedan than the TSX.
The TSX is an entry level luxury sedan with sporty intentions.

I believe the tire wear problems were limited to the '03 and early '04 models.

Not too fond of the interior. I've heard they are kind of heavy too so they dont handle that well at all.

in reguards to the g35 vs 350z.. yes, the g35 has a much better interior. but like someone said, it doesn't have that sporty interior feel to it. the 350z interior is very compact and sports oriented.. it seems.. hard decision. i should say (though i hate saying it cause i get flamed) that i'm 18, and the g35 seems too classy for me. i guess the tsx is classy like the g, so i don't know what im talking about. oh well. anyone else have input?

You might be describing the same vibe my wife and I got when we considered the G35. The interior seemed to have too much of the bling / tasteless feel that was accented by a gotty-looking analog clock.

ya, i think if that damn clock wasnt there i would be happy with the car. but ya, the interior has that blingy 'im rich' look.. not that people won't think 'god what a spoiled brat driving around in a 350z', but you know what i mean.

They replaced the Z of my friend with 4 brand new tires for free. No question asked.

um. no? just because the accord has an optional V6 does not make it a performance sedan.

i actually took some time to think about what to label the TSX before i typed it out. and i put the BMW 3 and G35 more in line as a "sports sedan". If you wanna be more technical, i guess you can call the BMW and Infiniti sport-luxury sedans. (while the M and 5-series are luxury-sports sedans) blah blah

The TSX is an entry level luxury sedan with sporty intentions.
i think that's what you call the TL, just like the Lexus ES (but without the "sporty intentions")
