Prepping car for cross country trip...any tips?
I'm driving my baby from VA to CA in 2 weeks. I'm moving to walnut creek, ca.
Currently on my list Is a new clutch, flywheel and axles. I was going to do wheels and tires but that would prob be a dumb move since my tires are fine and if these get bent, oh well.
I plan on carrying, for the car, wiper blades, serp belt, oil and filter, small tool kit, light bulbs, tire plugs and other small safety things.
Anybody have anything else they know of that i should add or take into consideration?
Thanks guys, also, if your in the walnut creek to hayward area, i don't know anything around there so i def. wouldn't mind being shown around a little.

That should be plenty of preparedness. My brother drives across the country once or twice a year in a beat up Outback and doesn't do anything other than change the oil before the trip. You're just going to driving across a whole lot of boring highway, it's not like you're entering the Dakar rally.

it's a car-drive it
last May we went on a 20 state road trip from NC to Yellowstone and back (6,177 Miles) Had the oil changed and tires rotated and balanced before we left. Going on another road trip this may NC to CA and back (the southern states this time) Basically will do the same things. my only advice is take breaks and be careful.

if you want to be real anal, use painter's tape across the front of your car to protect it from rocks and bugs.
You'll look silly, but that is a lot of driving for a car to take....but your bumper and hood are pretty much going to be assaulted by a ton of things during that drive.

Depending on your route, cold weather gear. Getting stuck in the middle of Nebraska in a blizzard without protection would be dangerous. Cell phone too.

Also, if you've got an '06 or better, load up your iPod with tunes and get a AUX plug. There are long stretches throughout the midwest & mountain states where there's not going to be anything on the radio.

Have a safe drive. When you get to Walnut Creek. Use --> http://www.yelp.com/walnut-creek-ca Yelp is pretty big around this area. A lot of people do writeups on the food spots and bars around the bay.
And things to bring as mentioned that I would definitely not forget:
-Cell Phone with car charger
-Extra few gallons of gas
-Plenty of Extra cash in case place doesn't take credit card/ATM
-Credit cards
-Very warm clothes to prepare for the worse
-Cheap Air Compressor ($10 at Walmart)
-Jumper Cables
-Chains?
-Food/Snacks
-Music...Music...Music
-Laptop - Try to find free WiFi spots to check the weather to the next city you're going to
-Condoms - Try to find easy chicks in each city you go to

well if you dont have a bra or clear bra, take the blue tape that bodyshops use well they paint your car and tape up the whole front bumper, half the hood, half the fenders, the mirror and the area between the front windshield and sunroof. If you havent figure it out yet, its the cheap way to protect your paint. my friend did this on my G35 and and it worked like a charm. Have a safe trip and have fun!!

Walnut Creek is close to where I live (Sacramento). Congratz on the move, the weather is typical cali here, sunny summers and rainy winters. You'll love it out here. Walnut Creek is my kinda city though, its more rural than the suburbs of sac, which I like. Maybe we can arrange a Sac meet after you get out here

You seem prepared enough and the suggestions of the other members won't hurt. When you arrive, we should throw a meet shortly after

Out of all those suggestions, nobody mentioned BLANKET in case you're stuck out of nowhere? Geez...
And in keeping of (god forbid) the potential of getting stranded theme, you may want a roadside triangle reflector of some sort to mark your parked vehicle in case you can't keep your engines running forever at night! I believe they come with the Audis. Should be included in all vehicles in my opinion.

Wow, that guys car is nuts.
As far as the train thing goes, i've heard nothing but bad things about shipping cars across country. Plus i figure the drive would be a pretty good experience.
I'll be staying in Walnut Creek but working in Hayward. Thanks for your guys help!
I'll def. post a log as i go, i'll have my lap top and my camera. My picts will be on myspace but i'll try to transfer them here. Actually just posted some new picts of my car on there. I just had the hood painted. E-mail- Litlekikr13@hotmail.com
Expect a little daily log starting 3-1-08

Bring something to pee in. Seriously, bring something to pee in. A wide-mouth bottle, one of those emergency pee pads from the auto parts store, a leftover Big Gulp cup, something, anything.
My bladder still aches from sitting in a standstill traffic jam for 4+ hours a few years ago....The cops were right in front of me so I couldn't "evacuate" in the nearby bushes....

on our road trip when we entered each state and were able too we parked the tsx by the welcome sign. We then took a picture showing our tsx by the welcome sign-(such as Nebraska, Wyoming, etc)
