Power Difference Between 04/05 and 06/07/08

OK. Here's my issue. I really like the body style (and definitely the stock wheels, but that's easy to change) of the 04/05. But, there are definitely nice upgrades to the 06 model year (minus the body/wheels).

The biggest upgrade that could make a real difference to me would be the engine changes. The other things are nice to have....bluetooth, memory seat, MID, etc....but if the engine change is that substantial, maybe I need to suck up the body changes and just get an 06.

So my question - for those of you that have driven both, are the engine changes enough to warrant getting the 06?

I can't believe they could make such subtle changes to the body, and illict such a different response from my brain!

Thanks in advance.

Interesting situation youre in. Im debating a 06+ conversion for my 05 along with a euro-r kit for my car. I LOVE the styling of the 06+ espescially compared to the 05. Only problem im having is that its expensive (obviously).

I dont mind the bluetooth so much but the MID would be nice. Wish i had that too.

That being said, the extra power is probably more substantial. you will spend most of your time inside of the car and thats what really matters. When you're driving the extra power may make a significant difference to you

If the price of the 04-05 and 06+ were equal i would advise you to take the more fully featured car. What you perceivably loose in looks, you gain in functionality.

I own an 04 and had several 06, 07, and 08s as loaners and honestly, I hardly noticed any difference in power between them. That alone would not influence my decision. It's all the extra goodies like Bluetooth that would do it for me. You should drive them both and see for yourself.

Get an 06+ for all the extra goodies and less chance of problems. The HP bump was just gravy.

There's a 10-15 hp difference between a 2004-05 TSX and a 2006-08 TSX. I'd get an 06 not for the power difference (though that's a bonus), but because of the bluetooth, memory seats, MID...

Well said, and I gotta agree with that statement. The extra goodies on the 06+ are very nice. The MID, BT, TPMS (07/08) and memory seats are nice little creature comforts. Well worth the little bit of extra cash. The HP bump is nice, but I'm sure its nothing you'd probably notice. As for the looks, you'll be spending most of your time inside the car. Which ever way you go, you really can't go wrong. Although if you come across an 04, have a look at the problems and fixes sections. There's some pretty well documented problems with the early 04's. And that a/c issue can get pretty costly.

I agree and yes the bump in power was more than 5 HP. As for looks, I kinda like the 05 styling

I actually think the '06-'08s body styling look a lot better than the '04-'05's......the wheels are probably an exception though. Although, the '06+ wheels are starting to grow on me. And of course, the slight power increase in the newer models are a good plus.

[quote=dom;10657099] They're THAT different to your eyes?

quote]

I keep trying to tell myself that they're not that different to my eyes....but my eyes keep telling me different! I guess the 04/05's look a bit "tougher" to me. Extending the nose a bit, and not having the rear chopped as much makes it look a little less aggresive to me. But, I guess the key word is "little".

I asked in the wheels forum if anyone had a pic of an 06 with 04/05 wheels...I wonder how much that offsets the body change...

Appreciate everyone's replies! We'll see what I end up with.

I love the 06-08 front end better personally.

I heard that the 07-08 has slightly smaller cam shafts (or something) than the 06, but the point is that I heard that the 06 is slightly faster. How much faster? I don't know. I'm not sure if that was just a rumor either.

I don't think there's any motor difference between 06 and 07/08. The big reason everybody seems to like the 06 is that it has the updated intake and throttle body that the 07/08 has, but you can get the ECU flashed by Hondata for better performance.

stock for stock theyre maybe marginally different. I think the euro-r kit for the car in 06+ years is very well executed and completes the look.

I already know that because of cost a front end conversion is highly unlikely.

For the OP: the extra features, power increase and the fact that the 2006 is the most moddable would be my reasons for getting the 06.
