Possible new owner

Good Morning everyone,

So I'm in the market for another Acura and have decided to go with a TSX. I'm a fan of both the 04-05 and the 06-08. More so the 04-05. I've been reading that have been issues with the 04. (But maybe that's because it was the first year of production?) I have found a couple of 04's with close to 100k or slightly over for around $9500. (Dealer) My question is should I be concerned for the 1st year of production or have your guys' 04's been some what trouble free. Also, I've been wanting Navi but is it worth it? Are they still making the Update CD's for a 10 year old car?

TIA.

I know my friends 03TL seemed ancient. I thought they would have made it better.

Of course not. My TL when I had it never seen 87, unless it was before my time. 91 only.

Trust me they didn't. My loaner was a brand new ILX. Had the same Navi as my 2012 TSX. WHich is probably the same as your friends 03TL

The TSX had already been sold in Europe and Japan for two years as the Accord before they started selling in the US as the TSX in early 2003; so it was not a truly new car when it first arrived here. My 2004 is probably one of the older ones on the forum as I bought it new in August 2003 and it now has 194K miles. The AC is known to be somewhat risky in the 04's, though I have not had any trouble with mine. The center console lighting is known to fail (see my post from today!) due to faulty circuit board. Acura issued a TSB for this and extended the warranty on this particular item to 7 yrs/100 k miles, but even then you are way past that coverage. All TSX's are known to warp OEM rotors and have headlight clouding issues, but in general it is still a solid car. Mine still drives tight and smooth. It burns a bit of oil now, but otherwise I still love it.

As with any used car, it is not just the mileage, but how well it has been maintained. 100k is right around when the TSX needs its major service - coolant change, spark plugs - along with other more routine items in an 11-12 year old car.

Skip an 04 if at all possible. Many are fine, but many had some real first model year problems too. It's true that the TSX was not an all new car, but many of the upgrades were, and I'm going to assume the suppliers too (who are most often the real cause of first model year blues). Try for an 05, or at least make sure you don't overpay for an 04 (like the ones you sited). Those are like $7K cars tops.

Yea. I'm avoiding 04, looking into 05+. Was reading a couple of threads over on TSX club, and noticed alot of the 04 owners were having the issues with their A/C compressors. Bad thing is, being in California the dealers try to rip people off, I've resulted looking into Arizona, and I've even found an 07 with 60k at a Dealer in Utah. (Not to sure if I want a car from Utah though)

The 06-08 TSX are almost identical except TPMS on the 07-08 models. I've had my 06 TSX w/ Navi since new (now +118,000 miles) and it has been an excellent vehicle to own. Routine maint, tires, battery, brakes, windshield wipers. The only unscheduled maint was TSB for power steering hose, worn front passenger side upper control arm, and rear camber kit for the a-spec suspension I added.

There shouldn't be much of a price premium for navi TSXs since that was the only option. I think the dash looks better with the touch screen navi unit. Mileage will be the biggest price difference compared to navi. They are still making update DVDs for +06 Navi units, I think they are stopping the 04-05 update disks this year. We still might have 3-4 year left before our DVD based reader update disk are no longer being made. I just purchase last year update DVD on Ebay for $35-$50 if you want to update. I still have my smart phone as a back-up if needed.

The +06 does have some updates compared to the 04-05 models:
- AUX connector in arm rest (I think 05 has Aux)
- Hands free Phone Bluetooth (mandatory in my city)
- fog lights
- updated front bumper
- updated OEM rims
- thicker steering wheel with grip bumps at 10 and 2 o'clock
- M.I.D. maint reminder and trip computer info
- memory driver seat
- driver 1 & 2 personalized settings
- updated gear shift for 5AT
- about +12hp increase (better breathing with intake and less restrictive CAT)
- updated grille and hood design (no metal strip on front of hood)
- +06 seats felt wider compared to an 05 loaner I had once
- 4-way power passenger seat ( I think the 05 might have power passenger)
- XM radio standard (no XM on 04 model)

The +06 models and pretty much any Acura get rock solid after the MMC is introduced.

Decided to go with an 06-08 model. Found 2 that I am interested in. Can't pull the trigger just yet though. I'm waiting for my refinance to be final.

Going to have to talk them down. 06 TSX 104k they are asking 11,950 been on the lot for a while.

Then found another one about 150 miles from me or so 06 TSX 107k asking 10,740

I bought a 04 6spd navi for $3000 with 183k... I only plan on keeping the car for a couple of months or until it dies. I haven't had any problems with the car and it still feels very solid. As with the Navi....in all honesty, it might be ancient compared to other brands but it does its job. Keeps the focus on the car and not on the screen which makes it more of a drivers car

I have an 04 6spd with navi. 171k miles. A/C compressor had to be replaced, I've had two batteries, alternator replaced, water pump replaced (preventive maintenance), and the inner axle joints replaced (about to replace it again). After all of this, I still think that my car was pretty darn reliable and worth the money.

04-08 all good years. Ifnanything goes wrong it probably has to someone else and is documented on a forum. Either one of the years would be great. I have a 04 & 05 both with over 165k and they have been a dream. Once you buy a Honda its usually hard to get away.
