please advise, brake pad replacement

I need new brake pads but all the local shops are quoting me over 400 dollars just to put on 4 new brake pads.

I upgraded my front rotors to slotted ones and all the shops say they must cut the rotors when installing new pads, but they all say they cannot cut slotted rotors so they wont do it at all.

my rotors are still perfect and I do not want them cut anyway as I don't want to remove material and increase chance for warping down the road.

so can anyone give me advice on a good place that will just do my pads and not over charge me? the dealership refused to do it because they want me to get new rotors because they can't/wont cut my slotted ones. and I'm sure they're expensive anyway.

the rotors are still going strong with not a single warp or vibration. thanks for any advice.

Are you saying you need pads for all four corners or just the front or rear?

If you have a driveway, brake pad replacement is one of the easiest jobs to do yourself. In my opinion, it's easier than an oil change, if you're comfortable working on cars. You'll save a bunch of money and can ignore what any shop tells you about cutting rotors.

Some shops change out pads without turning your rotors. I agree with you that you don't need to turn them. The total labor cost for front and back should be around $160 to $180.

You'll need local comments for a shop recommendation, but I agree on the ease of pad replacement. There are a couple of real good "how to" threads here that can walk you through it step by step. And/or, if you're a little more specific about you're location, maybe someone here could help you out.

well I can do it myself but I was just trying to find a shop for convenience of saving myself some time. but you guys are right I guess I will just suck it up and do it myself.

the fronts are squealing but I figured I would do all 4 just to get them out of the way. for some reason I thought it would be easy to pay a local shop one or two hundred bucks to get it done real quick. guess I'm searching the DIY threads, thanks guys.

I hear you on the "easier to keep the hands clean" by paying someone to do it; I've certainly taken that route on a few things, but..... For some reason, everyone seems to want to rape you (us... them...) on a brake job. I assume it's because they assume we don't know how cheap pads are and how easy it is.

Try calling this auto shop for a price quote. I read great reviews about this one. http://www.arcadiaultimateautomotive.com/
