Photoshoot Gone Wrong

im sorry if this is in the wrong section or not. but i figured it would be good to let all you fellow tsxers know what happened to me today. i drive an 07 pwp tsx and was doing a photoshoot with my friend who has a scion tc at an ikea in west covina. we were inside the parking lot when all the sudden a dull orange chevy HHR with 3-4 hispanics. the guy sitting in the rear seat pulled out a gun and demanded for both our wallets. we had no choice but give them our wallets. i did ask can i take out my license first but that didn't work. he got pissed off and cocked the gun and put it to our faces. after they took off we immediately called the cops. these robbers were very stupid and are going to face jail no doubt. they ran off with my license credit card debit card and some other nonimportant cards. they first went to a gas station which was literally right outside the parking lot and charged $1 for gas. next they headed off to an el pollo loco in baldwin park. they charged $27.77 on my credit card. i don't know since i guess they don't ask for ID. iam asian and these guys are hispanics. i guess the cashier didn't realize my name on the credit card. while all this i was i the process of cancelling my cards. they also went to an atm in el monte got denied, 7-11 in baldwin park got denied. the money was minimal and will reimbursed by the credit card company. i lost $20 in my wallet and the $120 wallet itself

the car is a dull orange chevy HHR
license plate: 5YON497

cops have the registered owners name and address already. i will be prosecuting them for assault with a deadly weapon. my friend who was a minor will prosecute for assault with a deadly weapon agaisn't a minor.

my question is do you think i can sue again for punitive damages?

anyways thank GOD no one was hurt

once i get these photos processed they will be up in the photograph gallery. again sorry if this is in the wrong section but i think it would be good to let all the tsxers here know what happened to me today

Freaking California!

Glad you're OK man. I don't know if you can sue for punitive damages. However, it's unlikely that you're going to get any kind of real money from this kind of thieves... do whatever to make sure their sorry asses end up in jail, and I'm with Afici0nad0 and hope they get what's coming to them...

Good thing they didn't ask for your cameras or your cars. But yes, they are total idiots. They should be on that show that makes fun of idiotic criminals

Pretty scary shiet! Glad you guys didn't do anything stupid by not giving them what they want. Makes me think twice about doing a photo shoot at a public location where i'll be vulnerable.

A review of relevent case law and Civil Statues (California Civil Code Section 3294) suggests your rocovery of any damages is unlikely. While the actions meet the "malice" standard of California law, the U.S. Supreme Court has consistantly ruled that punitive damages are correctly determined in the range of 4 times the physical costs and generally not recoverable much above that.

You loss is, in legal terms, insubstancial, and your cost of Civil action would likely be, like the resulting award, uncollectable and of a minor amount.

This is not legal advice...

I would suggest complaining to Ikea about insecurity in their lot, even assuming this might have been outside store hours, as this might help others in the future. The best you can do is be a solid witness and help put these scum away, and to badger the local prosecutor not to cut a deal.

oh the store was open alright. it was around 3:00PM while this happened. there were plenty of cars in the parking lot. we were off to the side a bit but no one noticed us being robbed. cars were driving in and out constantly but no one noticed.

damn sorry to hear that happen. Glad you guys are alright. As far as filing a suit against them, don't do it. It's a waste of time. Those hispanics are broke. Even if you do win, how much money can you really get from them?

I had almost the EXACT same experience last year. I had barely gotten my TSX and was at my friend's apartment chillin' in the ride. I don't want to go into detail because i know it's a waste of time but they too robbed me at gunpoint w/ a Double Barrel Shotgun. i know exactly how you feel. I don' know what your religious preference is but coming from me I felt an angel was next to sent from the Lord Above. This happened late at night, quiet, w/ absolutely NO ONE AROUND. It changed my life thoughly. God Bless you man.

ACURA TSX'D please go into detail don't think its a waste of time. i'd like to hear what happened to you. seems like yours was worse since it was a double barrel shotgun. my religious preference is Christian. and yes i felt like God was on my side for this one. dam those robbers. acura tsx did you find out who those guys were or got your stuff back? what did they take from you? my guys will most likely get caught since the cops found out the owners of the car and the house address.

Holy crap, that is crazy! Glad you're alright. I'd sue them for everything they have just to teach them a lesson. I'm normally not sue-happy, but I hate criminals!! Do what you can to get back at them (in whatever legal way you have).

I'm willing to bet that the HHR was stolen and didn't belong to any of the robbers. They'd have to be really dumb to pull a move like that with their own vehicle.

hey nogard bet again. cause these robbers are complete morons. i memorized their plates and reported it. it came out correct to a chevy HHR. the car was not stolen. im not sure if the driver in the car was the registered owner, but im sure the car belongs to a relative or a friend. either way its linked to the driver and the other criminals. they will be hit hard in court no doubt. im not very sue happy either because it wastes my time and probably these idoits don't have a dime to their name. they are by far the stupidest robbers ever. i wonder if theres any cameras that caught this on tape if so i'd like to get a copy and just send it in to like the stupidest crimes committed. anyways im up this early since i have to go to dmv to get another license.....

hopefully they are not illegal immigrants, so you can take them through the process all the way. Did you contact your lawyer yet?

Damn, that's my Ikea too.

BTW, these guys sound like complete buffoons. Robbing you, at gunpoint in broad daylight, with an orange HHR and their license plates attached? Idiots....I wouldnt be surprised if it was some sort of dare, and the gun was a painted BB gun. We're they younger guys?

Thank God you and your friend are Ok.

I also was robbed at an Ikea, the one in West Covina. But thankfully it was not at gun point. I did not have my TSX yet, I had my Integra. We were shopping, and we had some stuff that we needed to return in the hatch (wedding gifts), they broke my window and took all the stuff. They did not touch my stereo or my subwoofer, they just took all our wedding gifts, including a photo album (that's what hurt the most.) I will never go to the West Covina Ikea ever again.

I too I'm Hispanic I hate it when Moran like these, give Hispanics a bad name. We are not all like that, I hope they get to the maximum penalty.

well these guys did not seem very young. well depends on how you define young. they were aged 25-30. sounds like this ikea in west covina had a lot of stuff happen there. but once again these guys are complete morons and will get caught. im calling the police to get an update of whats going on here. Roci im sorry to hear that you had your wedding gifts robbed including the photo album. i also don't think there illegal immigrants there were most likely born here.

my wallet: $120
my money: $20
starbucks card: $15
seeing their facial expression when sentenced to jail: priceless

If anything, I'd be most worried about identity theft. Keep an eye on your credit report for a while. Last thing you need is for your life to be destroyed because some asshole took your wallet.
