Question Paint the chrome?

Hey everyone - just after opinions here...

My accord euro was involved in a minor collision with a lexus Rx330 4wd and it's going into the panel beaters tomorrow. While it's in there i was thinking of getting the chrome parts of the grill painted to match the body colour (Carbon Grey).

Any opinions on how it will look and should i bother getting it done?

just my .02 BUT

2 reasons why i wouldn't paint it and 1 why you should.....

Why ....

1. From personal experience...when you paint something that didn't come "factory painted" it usually shows wear over time ( especially if the car is your daily driver)

2. When you go to sell the car it could actually DEPRECIATE the car and/or immediately give off that "it was hit" and they repainted the wrong parts feel to eiather the dealer or private party

Why ....

1. Cause you like it

however i usually ALWAYS think about selling my car before i ever do anything to it
for example drilling holes in the fenders for side markers... looks cool now BUT when you sell the car is the guy gonna want holes in the fenders of a car?

book your plane ticket sauceman australia is a big place hahaha- i'm hoping to get it done and personally think it looks great (as per the picture). THe chrome wasn't actually affected by the impact it's just something i've considered doing instead of getting the euro r grille.

i had to remove the foggies and make the badge silver as the car i took the image from had the H painted aswell (+ foggies which i don't have)

Meh, I was mostly poking fun.. Though I'm not sure I'd really like the results.

Get some good high-res pics and post them pls.

I am in fact working with my boss to get a paid for trip down to OZ. We just struck a pretty big deal with a large group of hardware box stores, we need to set-up the whole deal properly.

Actually, I'm not sure I'd really want to do this, if it's gonna be like here the past few weeks; I've been working night shifts setting up large displays in "The Building Box" stores. 20-22 work hours days: sauceman = teh I'm frikkin tired and jetlagged (even without travelling overseas)

I think your idea sounds cool. I was doing the because that guy said Type X's statement was weird. It's true the aftermarket paint jobs don't hold up well. Also, I do have to agree with him that it may lower the value. But if you are like me and want to keep the car a long time, I say go for it. ....I would reccoment that they use plenty of clearcoat and it should hold up better.

oh true, thanks. Good to get a bit of positive feed back on the idea. I'll be keeping the car a minimum of 5 years so the "value factor" isn't really a major concern. I know of someone (who's car i used for the picture) who had the same done over a year ago and the paint has held up fine but i'll keep an eye on it and make sure it doesn't start looking cheap and tacky over the years.

Yup, "werd" = "agree, right on" or something like that...

It's NOT weird

So I agree with Type X and that means slats and I agree on that same thing too.

sauceman... they didn't give a reason. They just said they wouldn't touch it i've been thinking of ringing back and saying "why not" tho. I'm sure a panel shop would have the ability to do it

I believe others have had the same experience, I think some shops wont do it b/c the paint wont stick to the chrome right and don't want to be liable for the results
