How long does your orange Maint Req'd light stay blinking when you first start your car (or does it even blink when starting car)? It seems to stay on for longer after my oil change last week. It blinks for about 10 seconds total, outlasting the airbag light. Maybe that's normal and I have not been noticing it...

 

how many miles? 7500-8000?

its in the owners manual. something about the warning light stays on longer til 10000 miles then its on the whole time. u have to hold the trip reset button with the key in the on position (engine not running) to reset it.

It will go through a progression of blinks at different stages as you approach a service interval. At 1000 miles before you're due, it will blink 3 times when you start your car. At 500 miles before you're due, it will blink 10 times. When you're up, it will stay on until the necessary service is done. At that time when you bring the car to your local Acura dealer for its service, it will be reset after completion. Under normal conditions, the i-VTEC engines will have service intervals that do not occur as often as the other Acuras. Your intervals are at about 5000 for oil changes (rather than 3750) and your intermediate checkups are at every 10k miles (instead of every 7500).

Thanks!! Yeah, it blinked 10 times. I'm actually pretty close to 5000 miles from my last oil change. So I'm sure they forgot to reset it when they changed my oil. But I'll take her in and let them take a look just in case.

 

Does anyone else think this is a useless feature?

It's great if you change your oil precisely at 10,000-mile increments. But, if you change it at, say, 7,500-mile incremements, the light will only coincide with your oil changes every 30,000 miles! The likelihood of the 10,000-mile increment applying to your situation is slim.

I changed my oil (for the third time) at 16,500 miles. For the past week or so, I've been staring at the Maint Req'd light, even though I'm 1,000-2,000 miles away from another oil change.

I hope to have it permanently disabled at my next Acura Service appointment.

The thing should be resetable at any time. The light comes on every 6,000 miles on the Accord but you can't reset it when you change the oil (or when you want to), you have to wait until 6,000 miles since you last reset it. Dumb.

 

In the TSX, it comes on at 10,000-mile increments (10,000, 20,000, etc.), regardless of when you reset it, which is useless.
