How far is Markham from Detroit? If you get one in Detroit I will help you change it in my garage. About a 10 min deal. One 10mm wrench is all that is needed.

240 mi. city to city. GO Mapquest lol
I'd say about... a 5 hour drive...

http://www.mapquest.com/directions/m...&2s=MI&2z=&r=f

Having to cross the border for a battery is kinda bleh, but... maybe it could be a fun day trip lol, just 10 hours of driving.

Thanks for the offer though, but I think even if I bought it in Detroit, the 2 tanks of gas would probably make the battery cost more than me buying it for $305 from the garage that quoted the price, and not to mention losing a whole day driving.

I appreciate the gesture of goodwill!

The only reason I recommended them is because I went there on my lunch and the guy actually called his distributor while I was standing there. That's the quote he gave me, so I don't know why they're giving you the run-around. It's probably best to deal with someone else though if that's how they want to do their business.

Just call around to a few shops near you that carry interstate batteries. If they carry interstate, their distributor also carries Optima.

Like I said b4, RT or YT are pretty much the same, but RT has better CCA, which I found is suitable for Toronto (GTA) weather. RT is a bit heavior than YT, but I wouldn't care much. You can find them in Walmart or Costco around $139-150CDN + TAX.

Yeah, guess that's what I have to do, not too much choice there, or maybe I'll do a day trip to Niagara Falls, hop the border and see if I can find one there.

I guess I wouldn't mind the RT, since the only reason why I want a YT so bad is because of the Couteract Electronic Rustproof thing I have on my car, and it seems to make my OEM battery right now SUCK when I haven't driven the car in like 12 hours, and that I'd have to remove the tray, and that's just extra work I don't want to do.

Yeah, I been to that link before, but I'm looking for a place I can go to and just pick one up. Don't want to wait for shipping right now.

I'll check out interstate.

I can't honestly say that I notice anything different from the OEM.
I think the TSX could just use a little beefier starter motor...

Dan, you still have a problem starting up your car?

Since I have change to Optima, everything set and worry free... I'm in Toronto too so the climate should not be a factor b/w me and you.

It starts all the time, but sometimes it's pretty slow to turn over on really cold days. It also sometimes starts at too low of a speed so it idles really rough for a second. It just sounds like the starter doesn't have any balls.

I don't mean to bring up a really, really old thread but I'm thinking about getting the yellow top. How has the optima been over the years for those of you who went this route?

My yellow top has done so good that I switched it my TL-S from the TSX, when I traded it in. I wasn't gonna take a chance on the cheap batteries Acura is using. It's been almost 2 years and still strong!

Interesting, I thought that CR had put a hex on YT models. Or was it a thread here? There was a string of bad Optima experiences last year, IIRC.

My Honda battery (provided with my CPO car in 2007) left me high and dry MOnday morning, AAA tech said it was probably a bad cell, so hi-ho, hi-ho off to Costco cub I go, and ... got a Kirkland Signature 51R, which Consumer Reports called a Best Buy and highly rated (for southern climes) in their last tests. $56 and change out the door. They had the proper sized Optima YT for $138, but that's almost 3 times as much as a perfectly acceptable equivalent. :thumbsdow You guys up north need more CCAs, though, I grok that.

Glad you brought this back apnorm.

I'm headed out in the morning to finally get rid of my POS OEM battery and was debating on the RT35 or YT51r. I've been reading alot of threads and I'm pulling the trigger on the YT51r.

I left cold and gloomy Philly 9 years ago to come live in Miami just 2 blocks from the beach so weather don't mean jack to me anymore!

Lotta money you're shelling out for a slightly better battery IMHO. I only hear that the Optimas shine in cold climes (snow) where more CCA muscle is needed. My Costco Kirkland Signature battery has been doing just fiiiine the past few weeks with everything running at once (radio, a/c, lights, charging phone).

I just re-read this whole thread....quick question.

I am running the SC, have no plans for stereo upgrades, and charge my phone, plug in my iPod and have a Garmin GPS that plugs in. I never sit in the car an listen to the radio with the car off.

Which optima would be best for me?? Weight savings would be nice but not at the risk of the battery performance over the long term.

I drive an 06 5AT, 56K and I live in NY out on LI. Thanks all!!

carmagnut, DAYTA's running a Redtop of some kind with his S/C setup and has been happy with it. If you do some searching you can probably find what he's using.

I'm supercharged too and am still using a Duralast Gold battery, which works fine. It's kind of ugly in the engine bay, though, so I need to get around to scoring a Redtop myself, haha.

Thanks for the info. I may go the same route he did mainly because his ideas are well thought out, researched and I am too lazy to start from scratch.
