Only 15k TSXs, ehh???

Like I said from the beginning the 15,000 figure from Acura was ONLY and estimate -- despite many dealers and salesmen claiming the TSX would be "limited production" and "hard to get since they are only making 15,000 units". Here proof:
http://www.vtec.net:80/news/news-ite...item_id=189030
The last line of the press release from Acura says, "The TSX sports sedan, recently named to Car & Driver magazine's 10 Best Cars list, registered 1,851 sales, pushing year-to-date sales to 18,932 and exceeding the 2003 sales goal by more than 25 percent.". If you take 15,000 and multiply it by 1.25 (that's a 25% increase) you get 18,750 -- so that proves the inital 15k numbers was always just a sales estimate. Shame on all those salesmen who tried to use that number to mislead potential customers!

I've had 2 dealers working on getting a specific TSX for about a week now, and I can tell you that 15,000 sent to the US was correct initially. Acura didn't know they would sell the way they did, and manufactured, a second wave of TSX that are still coming everyday.

WOnder if this second wave of production had any improvement on those rattles

I would be shocked Shocked SHOCKED to learn that car salesmen don't belong to the most ethical and truthful profession in the world!

Well, OF COURSE Honda maximizes it's (our) profits by building as many TSXs (and Accords) as it can possibly build!

The only reason I posted this in because there were, at one time, some salemen here on the forum trying to defend their practices (which involved touting that 15,000 number as a scare tactic). Most people around here understood the 15k number was only an estimate and that they would produce more if the demand was there. I also know that most (but not all) car salesmen will say *ANYTHING* to make a sale.

You are absolutely right. But this is very old news.

Depends how you look at it. The initial statement about 15,000 units was ambigious as to whether it was a target or limit. The recent PR statement now makes it completely clear that the 15k number was just a projected sales target all along.

I can't agree, about Acura being "ambiguous" or anything like that. A while back we looked for anything from Honda or Acura that ever said 15,000 was a limit, or that was even ambiguous about it. As near as I remember, the only things we found were references to it being a "target." Of course this doesn't count the misunderstandings (or whatever) that appeared in the media -- just direct citations from Honda/Acura.

And, for that matter, I don't recall anybody on here exactly quoting a dealer saying that the 15,000 was a limit. One person had a salesman say the car is a "limited production vehicle," and we batted that around. But I don't recall anybody having a salesman say the number was a limit or anything like that. Then again I've never been too interested in those threads, so maybe I missed some dirt.

Actually it may haven been ClubTSX but most of us around back then were on ClubTSX before coming here. Anyhow, at least a couple salesmen made several references like "they are only making 15,000". I admit this is all water under the bridge, but everyone should remeber this next time Honda/Acura comes out with a new model and some salesmen tries to tell you "they are only making X-thousand of these". I know many people are smart enough to ignore this type of BS, but I really hate the deliberate spread of misinformation.

I was counting ClubTSX too. I don't recall anything exactly like that over there either.

But regardless, even if a salesman said exactly what you say, even though it's incorrect I don't see how it would mislead anybody. The idea it would convey is that it's a relatively-hard-to-get car -- which it is.

To tell you the truth, I've never understood the fascination that a lot of people have had over this 15,000 thing. We KNOW that you can buy the car if you want to, we KNOW they're a little hard to get, we KNOW that therefore it's hard to get a great deal, we KNOW that you might have to wait a while for the car, especially if you want something very specific. We KNOW all that. And that's also what would be the case if there was a set number, unless they had already sold all the cars, which everybody knows they haven't.

So what's the big deal?

The fact that 15K was a sales goal not a limit has been discussed several times before. In fact probly once a month April 03 through to Dec 03.

I know when I was selling I told people it was a target. I also remember fellow salesmen using the target as a selling tool.

Side note... I was told by my sales manager a month before I left I was too nice. Too bad that's a negative in the car biz.
