First of all, your car should be fine.

Second, hang up the phone and drive

Forgot to clutch...? Yikes, maybe some more MT practice is necessary before you hit the public roads?

Gear ginds happen. Although I can't understand not clutching.

most of my gear grinds come from throwing the car in reverse before I fully stop rolling foward.

It happens Ive had 5 Stick shift cars & never blew a tranny

Don't multitask.

Glad it wasn't anything too serious.

You're not grinding gears then.

I also don't understand shifting before clutching.
To me, that's like putting on shoes before wearing my pants, or showering before taking my clothes off.
One can't be done before the other no matter how distracted I am.

Talking on the phone while driving a M/T car? Were you using the Handsfreelink? Not that I condone talking on the phone while driving or multitasking. I agree with psteng, it's like human nature and the car being part of my body.. haha.. Clutch, shift, tsug.. tsug..

Umm, I think you're overreacting. You just grinded your reverse gear a little bit. It's not going to kill your car. Jesus.

What you should do:
1. Have an adult park the car. Preferrably one that knows how to drive a manual transmission
2. Wait 5 years
3. Take a drivers' ed course using a manual transmission car
4. Get rid of your cell phone in anticipation of soon driving
5. On Feb 10, 2012, start the car and test your skills
6. Report back here to let us know how it goes.

J/K!!! Your car will be fine, just try to be easy on the thing! And DO NOT drive distracted, you can hurt yourself, your car, or other people and/or their property!

Probably anyone who's driven a MT car for any period of time has done a gear grind at one time or another. Your car is fine. Just don't make a habit of it.

Seriously, we've ALL multi-tasked and done things we shouldn't have done. The only difference between him and us is that he messed up and shared it with us. How long of a thread do you think we'd get going if we asked people to share their own multi-tasking accidents made while driving? And stop ripping the kid about his age...if he's put 3600 miles on the car thats more than enough practice. Since he's put that many miles on it lets just assume he knows how to drive stick. If you can't drive stick after 3600 miles of practice then you need a sippie cup and a motorized wheel chair. Let's chalk it up to a careless mistake due to yes....multi-tasking.

Dude not everybody can just have a relaxing drive to the general store. Some of us live in busy places and have a lot going on in our lives.

Dude...first of all....EVERYONE is busy. Everyone that has a job and pays for their own shit is busy. But, what exactly are you getting at anyway, because if you read my post you'd see I'm actually backing the kid up...

Would anyone suggest he get consider having the tranny fluid replaced? (For a mild grind, I'd say no, but if you really grinded it, maybe it would something to think about -- the idea being that you don't want what you shaved off swimming around in your gears for the next few years).

I don't know about the TSX, but some other makes use a magnetic drain plug for the manual transmission fluid that will collect any metal flakes that end up in the fluid, so it the TSX has one of these I also wouldnt worry.

He knows now that the car is fine and that he needs to be more cautious.
