Oil filter removal question

If I remove the oil filter before draining the oil pan, how much oil will leak out?

It seems to me that the oil filter mount on the TSX is high enough so that only the oil in the filter will leak out.

Does anyone know for sure? I'd like to know before I try myself and end up with 4 quarts of oil on me

I havent either but most of the oil should be in the pan and there will be some oil left in the filter as normal. Just put your oil catch pan under neath the filter and loosen enough to break the seal first. If if stops dripping then you're all set, and can remove if not you can at least retighten to avoid the potential flood scenario.

WHY ON EARTH WOULD YOU WANT TO DO THAT? I don't think it'll dammage your TSX, but damn boy, haven't you ever changed oil before? I guess your question just so goes against convential dictions that I find it hard to belive it's even a question. Come to think of it though, all the great solutions in life have come from backward thinkers like yourself. More power to you, just don't expect me to help fix whatever wrath of the Auto Gods you unleash by doing things bass-ackward. By the way, I'm drunk....but even so, I'd NEVER'AVE thought of doing it like that. Damn boy, WHY?
PS- Did I mention i'm drunk?

What's wrong with removing the filter first? The oil in the pan has nothing to do with the oil in the filter. Just because everyone else got used to draining the oil first doesn't mean removing the filter first will cause any problems. It's not like the oil level is all the way up to the filter. So to answer the question, it's perfectly fine to removing the filter first if you want to. However, the longer you let the oil sit after turning off the engine, less oil will be coming out of the filter.
