The filter location is ridiculous...but then again so are the labor costs at the dealer...

No. Just keep your receipts for the oil you buy, or the receipts you get from another shop.

I have installed the "quick oil drain valve" made by Fumoto. It makes draining the oil relatively easy. Just lift and turn a lever to open.
The oil filter is is a tricky position but it can be reached behind (a cool) engine without major contortions. Just don't tighten it too much.

Both (or did until the warranty expired)(that 100K extended). The 05 has a 10K mile recommended interval. The dealer did it on the 10's (10K, 20, 30, etc) and I did at on the 5's (15K, 25, 35, etc). I agree on the filter. I just bite the bullet and pull the front wheel off. It makes it so much easier (and it's easier to stuff some rags in there to catch the oil that always comes out too).

Changing the oil is so easy, so I always do it on my own. (Yes, I remove the wheel to do it.) I have only had the dealer do an oil change twice. The first time was for the first oil change (since I heard that the oil drain bolt is very tight when the vehicle comes out of the factory). The second time was last month when I took my car in for warranty work (and figured I might as well let them do the oil change since it was almost over due, and I was going to go out of town later that month).

I think it is excellent that you can do your own car maintenance. It helps if you enjoy doing it. I have no desire to. I get the tires rotated and balanced when I have the oil changed. I get most of my oil changes free or at a huge discount.

I always change my own oil. I don't trust anyone to do any work on my car. There are way too many idiots around and none of them care about your vehicle.

I agree with this. I do it usually, but there's no shame in taking it to a place to get it done.

I did my own change for all my previous cars, except this past year for my FG2 that I recently traded in my for my TSX. I haven't had the time or patience with the high temperatures in my area, so I've been having Honda change it for me.

DIY. I think the dealer charges too much in my area for it to get done. Whatever works for everyone though. Only takes like 20-30 mins to do it.
