Oil change issue....

Ok... so I'm doing my own change today for the 1st time on my car. Earlier, I went to acura to buy the 14mm washers for the oil bolt. I tried to put the 14mm washers over the bolt today but it didn't fit. It goes all the way to the last thread and no matter how hard I push down, the washer won't go to the bottom thread. I was showing the bolt to my dad, and he says it looks like it doesn't need a washer. The bolt has a built in silver bottom washer??? is my dad crazy? or is the manual messed up for saying our bolt needs a washer? or should i go to acura and get a new bolt? anyone else? help! w00t w00t!

you went to the dealer and bought washers?? you got robbed unless you 'em free.

edit: get the fram suredrain and a free washer from the dealer. after you drain the oil, replace with new washer and suredrain...no more worries in future oil changes

So if it doesn't cost shit from the manufacturer, then it should be a 5 dollar parts from Honda/ Acura!

Maybe its not supposed to go all the way down. It's a crush washer, so bit too small in diameter.

When I bought an oil filter from my dealer's parts department, they taped 2 washers over the filter's plastic shrinkwrap. Apparently, they include the washers with all the filters they sell. So I asked why 2 washers, does it need 2 washers? They replied "the second washer is for when you drop the first one and can't find it."

Yes you do need a washer!!! Make sure the washer isn't stuck onto the oil pan too!!

Are you sure you got the old crush washer off the plug? The inside diameter of the old washer often has a little ridge where it crushes inside the pan threads. Often the washer is stuck to the drain plug and needs a little coaxing to come off. It is a good idea to replace the washer every time.

I have never changed the washer on the '90 Civic w/ 90K+ miles and it has yet to leak. The trick is in the torque applied when putting it back on.

I noticed that too but I wonder if it's psychological or if there really is a difference.
