I saw the commercial, and actually advertise that it has more room than a 7 series.... I guess it's a selling point for them.. but I agree, not for my taste.
However, I think we can probably agree on this being Hyundai's second attempt in upgrading its image (first being the XG300)... I think they're coming up pretty quick in the past 5 yrs or so. I think within another 3-4 yrs, they'll be able to come out with a car that will amaze everyone and totally change its image to the avg consumer (similar to the Jetta/A4 comeback for VW). Even the new Sonata's are pretty nice, I think they'll be up to something with the next Tiburon...

I am no hyundai fan but to be fair it got a higher intial quality then most other major manufactures even acura.
If were looking for an un-inspiring car to go from a to b at a minimum of cost I might consider one.

ive driven two hyundai cars before my friends tibron and my girlfriends 06 sonata v6, and not only were they slow but the ride is choppy and gross. acura accurate just dominates i still dont see why this car would be vs the tsx....ever

Weren't the domestic powers that be saying the same stuff about Honda back in the day?? Get your noses out of the air guys.
That being said, the TSX is a different class of car. I think they're aiming for the ES330 or Buick Lucerne or something like that, not a European-style sports sedan.

So the Azera is a loaded prior-gen Camry knockoff, while the Sonata is a current gen pre-refresh Accord knockoff. Guess they don't have much creativity in design.

I cant believe you guys are comparing your TSX to an Azera.
Like a lot of you mentioned, its 2 different cars period. The Azera is in the same class as an Avalon and Passat. They just did a comparo on them. The Koreans are still probably about 7 years behind the Japanese...the gap is closing though.

One of my friends sister bought a new 02 or 03 Hyundai Sonata... fully loaded with leather and BS for about 17grand.... last month the motor blew because a crank seal was faulty and leaked out oil... The motor completely seized...
Of course with HYundai's 10yr/100k mile warranty, they'll be replacing it....
dunno about you but thats some seriously quality control right there... cars like this, these korean brands will do anything to "cut corners" to save them costs and drive up profits at the expense of the consumer's time/money.
i'm already afraid of the new "Geely" 's coming out from China...... they will be starting at $8grand brand new MSRP... and i sure hope they throw in 200,000 miles 20 year warranty.... if they want to compete.

As for Geely, they'll have some problems initially, but if they are smart and get the right people to run their division in the US, they'll make huge leaps and bounds very quickly and be able to catch up to the Koreans in no time.

Try not to be so myopic, people.
If you don't believe it ask your father/grandfather what they thought of Japanese products when they were your age.
good read: Japanse Quality
The world is dynamic, changes are constant, reality changes, people (we) change. Everything changes !
It'd be interesting to re-read your comments here when you get to your fathers age.
btw, I'd choose a Azera/Sonata over US sedan.

Additionally,.........I really wish ppl would stop using a specific (in some cases probably a very atypical example) to characterize a whole auto manufacturer. That is such a fallacious argument to use. Its the same as saying my uncle smoked 8 packs a day and he is fine,.....so smoking can not lead to lung cancer. In the same way,......so and so got this car 4 yrs ago and had many problems,.....therefore the maker of the car sucks and I would NEVER buy one. This is what is known as the vividness effect in Psychology (yes, I have a psychology degree). If organizations such as JD Power and Assoc. etc make bold statements about how hyundai quality has really improved etc,.......it is for a reason. Statistically they have improved a great deal. The JD Power ratings look at the reliability over 3 years if I remember correctly for their VDS rankings. In addition, Initial quality ratings have been shown to be a good predictor of long term quality with vehicles.
This is right off the JD Power website:
Lexus, which ranks highest in vehicle dependability for the 11th consecutive year, improves 14 percent (23 PP100) compared to 2004.
Porsche makes the largest percentage improvement in its VDS score, while Hyundai experiences the largest reduction in problems reported by owners. Porsche, which ranks second among nameplates, improves 38 percent compared to 2004-a 91 PP100 improvement. Although still hovering below the industry average, Hyundai records a dramatic 115 PP100 improvement (31%).
"Hyundai experienced similar levels of improvement in the 2002 IQS, when these vehicles were new, which shows a successful effort by Hyundai in translating short-term quality improvements into higher long-term quality," said Parker. "Even though there is still room for improvement, Hyundai is a great example of an automaker that is making strides toward improving vehicle quality by paying close attention to owner feedback and designing products with both short- and long-term quality in mind."

One shouldnt be so quick to dismiss a certain car or manufacturer.
As far as Hyundai goes, I have test driven a Sonata twice and looked at the car in great detail. I have enough faith in the company now to buy a car from them and I trust the declarations about their greatly improved quality.

If Hyundai is going to start selling vehicles for $30k or more Hyundai seriously need to introduce/start their own luxury brand.
Imagine if Toyota didn't have the Lexus brand or Honda didn't have the Acura brand. Without those luxury brands (seperate from their 'mainstream' brands) I don't think either Toyota or Honda would have sold nearly as many $30k-$50k cars. Not even close IMO.
Not many people are willing to pay $30k-40k for a Honda or a Toyota. But when its called a Lexus or Acura, that's a different story. Same goes with Hyundai, Hyundai needs to introduce its own luxury division and build it up.

This is according to 2002 models in Consumer Reports' annual auto issue.
Disclosure: I drive a TSX and I love my car. I'll put on a flame suit in any case.

Hyundai has made a lot of improvements, but from what I've read, they do not have their sights set on Honda. They are striking out at Toyota more than anything, and Toyota is worried. In an interview with a Toyota executive recently, he said that Hyundai was the biggest worry. His remarks about Honda was something to the effect of "We worry about them, too, but they do stuff their own way and we do stuff our way. Hyundai is doing it our way."
Honda cars have a certain feel that, personally, I love. That's why I wouldn't buy a Hyundai. I still recognize that they are really improving quickly. If I were a big Toyota fan, then I'd be concerned.
The Azera, according to Hyundai, is a direct competitor for the Toyota Avalon. This is the car that Hyundai is trying to take on with the Azera. Since Honda does not have a sedan to compete with the Avalon directly, I'd say this thread is moot.

mmmmmm....
I have agree with few of you guys comment!! Yes, Hyundai isn't great car yet but soon they will be. You guys have to remember that this brand is still fairly new to U.S. Do you guys think everyone started to like Japanese car when they first came to U.S??? I don't think so...everyone thought it was piece of crap and it was cheap. They improved themself over past 20-30 years. Now look where they at!!! Do you guys see the point. Don't diss on hyundai because of what you saw on 10 years ago. This company has improve so much last 5 years. I just hate reading about people saying how bad hyundai is without good reason.

All I can say is team Japan has proved themselves to me. From Toyota to Honda and all the products they provide. Team Korea on the other hand, from Samsung to Hyundai, has yet to prove to me they can make a reliable product. Good initial quality, bad long term. Though I'd hate to judge a company just because of the country it comes from.
It seems that each country has it's own priorities when producing anything, but even though I wouldn't let it be my ONLY requirement I'd still be more apt to buy Japanese than Korean. Right now that is. Hell I'm still waiting for the American companies to catch up with Japan.

But I don't think its entirely accurate to group all auto companies from Japan as begin better than Korean companies. There's a lot of variation in quality among Japanese auto companies. For example, IMO, cars from Mazda and Mitsubishi are on par with cars from Hyundai. And I would say the Hyundai Sonata is a better value (and maybe car) than the Mazda6 or the Mitsubishi Galant.
