Have you guys seen the new hyundai? Doesn't look too bad...a sub 30k loaded car with subtle luxuries like power shades and autosensing wipers, and a 263 hp engine...

It all depends on what you are shopping for. It doesn't look too bad, has a lot of features. But, I'd really be curious about how it handles. Road manners and agility are very important to me.

The Sonata is a nicer looking car than that. Hyundai let its quality slip a few years back (see Kia), and though they seem to be back on the upswing, they're right there with Ford on resale.

Right now they're trying to catch up to the rest of the Asian import field. They want to be mentioned in the same breath with Toyota, Honda, Nissan so they're playing it safe from an esthetic point of view and loading up on features at a low price to attract buyers. Plain but hints of MB styling in the front. Not my cup of tea but I think they've come a long way from where they were 5 years ago. It could replace my father's Oldsmobile (metaphorically speaking).

If your TSX isn't an 06, then you don't even have memory seats.

Azera is not a direct competitor with the TSX. Different car. But, unless you're blinded by badges, you gotta give it props for what the Azera is.

$30K for a Hyundai? LMAO!!!
I have heard (but still don't believe) that their quality ratings are getting a bit better, but I still wouldn't touch one. Ever.
I was in an XG350 once and it was a nasty POS. It was not only ugly inside and out, but the controls around the stereo and such were just insane (confusing as hell b/c there were so many of them).

Heard that in J.D Power VDS,their rank is climbing fast. Humm,I would say wait and see.
However,I don't think TSX and Azera are the cars in the same category either.

I was just comparing two cars in similiar price ranges. I DO own a 06 TSX so i'm not comparing them to purchase. But im just saying, that hyundai has came a long way, they're able to offer at 28.5k thats loaded with almost all the amenities that our TSX has. I'm not saying its nicer looking than the tsx, but its not fugly either.
If you looked at the features u can get for 28.5k, its really not that bad for those that are looking for a car (especially those that are looking for a more conservative car). v6, heated mirrors, power mirrors, auto rear blinds, 6 dash, etc... Surely i'd still take a tsx over it anyday. I'm just saying, that its not bad.

every company has to start somewhere, i wouldnt buy a hyundai now, but in the future who knows...
when the legend first game out to compete with the more luxurious european brands, a lot of people questioned buying an 'upscale honda.' altho, not everyone sees acura as a highend brand, i dont think acura has lost the fight, it's only beginning...

you are comparing a compact sports sedan to a full size sedan....that's like comparing a civic sedan to a 7-series bmw.....if you want a full size, get then the azera.

Don't knock it. Read some reviews on it. Hyundai has come a long way quality-wise (although I'm not saying that they are on par with Acura, Lexus, BMW, etc).
While shopping for a new car (eventually deciding on the 06 TSX), I test drove an Azera.
Like others have said, the TSX and Azera are two different types of cars. Nevertheless, I was quite impressed with it. Build quality had a nice, solid feel to it. The ride was smooth and comfortable, but definitely not sporty. And it had power. LOTS of amenities. And the warranty is nothing to sneeze at. It definitely did NOT seem like a Hyundai.
But, in the end, it seemed like it's styled and made for a 65 or 70 year old, and I wanted a sports sedan, which the Azera definitely is not.
One thing that really stood out to me, was that it had the most comfortable seats that I've ever sat in in a car.
Very nice car, if it's the class of vehicle that you're looking for. It just wasn't for me. (Maybe in another 20 years or so.....)
All that said, I'm very happy with my decision to go with the TSX.

I agree, Hyundai has come a long way.
I think the new azera does not look that bad, and I think the sonata looks great. Not enough ppl give Hyundai the respect they should be getting because their cars really are a lot better now. I test drove the Sonata twice last year and was very impressed with the car. It was a lot better than I was expecting. Its not at the same level as my TSX, but it was still a nice car. They also come with a good warranty last time I checked. Resale is not great right now though.

hyundai is just about as bad as a german car in reliability. Even though they fix the crap for you for free, think about the hours you've spent going to the dealer to have the car fixed, and the possibility of your car breaking down on the road causing you to crash or something of that sort. I'd never mess with that......
Its really not worth it...... plus, subjectively speaking, the thing is hideous. My aunt owned a hyundai before, and the electrical problems were so severe that they traded it back in within the same year........ not worth it at all

What's next in the "Extreme Cross-shopping Series - TSX Edition"?
Acura TSX vs. Pontiac Solstice?
Acura TSX vs. Hummer H2?
Acura TSX vs. Sony KDS-R60XBR1?
The Acura's handing is sporty but the Sony's screen is 60" vs. 7" on the Acura, so in the end I went with the Sony.

I've had my TSX since fall of '04 (35K miles). We took a vacation in early Feb. and our rental car was a new V6 Hyundai Sonata (started w/ 600 miles on the odo.). We put about 2300 on it in 10 days. Overall I was impressed (for a Hyundai) but it still seemed really cheap inside and the engine though it is more horsepower felt slower and was very rough. Handling was good compared to most other cars its size but nothing like my TSX (with Comptech RSB). Also, the rear drivers side window made a terrible clunk when it went down.
Bottom line, I was so happy to have my TSX back after our trip.
