Was this offer too low?

So I tried the "online quote" thing on my local Acura dealer's website (Hopkins Acura in Redwood City)

I offered 26.5K for a Navi 6MT TSX, here's my reply:

Hi Samir,

Sorry I don't have any used TSX's with a 6-speed.

Regards,

Michael ANDREWS, Hopkins Acura
USED?!?! wow, was my offer that low? It's May, demand should be rather low right now! Especially since a more powerful TSX is coming soon.

LOL you just got by your dealer

The average price for a 2005 with Navi is $28,000 so you're probably low.

I got my '04 Navi 6MT for 26.4k. They got me on the 11.9% APR untill I refinanced through my bank for 3.9%.

26.8 is still not bad.

I've had a very hard time finding ANY 6MT TSXs in the dealer lots. Checked Hopkins Acura nd Acura of SUnnyvale.

Considering a 6MT TSX w/ NAVI is hard to run by in certain areas, you don't have a lot of room to play with numbers.

Yeah, I was wondering about that... It looks like I'm going to have to pay extra for a MT!!

this would probably be the case since you wanted NAVI as well, AUTO or MT tsx with NAVI is hard to find and dealers don't budge on prices...and factor in the color combo you would like...

Tell me about it! I was paying a whopping $549 a month, almost double what I pay now, for 6 months....

I actually thought it was a good deal considering it was the only one they had on the lot, the color I wanted (SSM matches my SSM Integra), and the demand for 6MT Navi's was higher than the supply...

That 11.9% was killin me though, thank God/ I got refinanced...

I think invoice is $27,100 for a TSX navi.
So... yea... $600 below invoice on a car that's usually hard to find in stock.
Just a little low. I'd shoot for 27500 or maybe even a couple hundred below that. But nothing lower. Or try to get them to throw in some accessories like an OEM bodykit etc.../

Working in sales I often put myself in the salesperson shoes simply to see how I would react in a certain situation.

IMHO, I say that you would be more credible if you come in person to the dealership. Unless the dealership is desperate for mooving units, you will not get a good price over the internet (I think.)

If I was working for a dealership I would interpret a request like yours, as someone who wants my best price just to go out to the nearest dealership with it and buy the car over there (waste of my time). I sometimes send requests for a price but I know that there is no way that they will give me there best price up front. I think it's a matter of respect towards the customers who actually take the time to go to the dealership.

To get an OK price over the internet you have to say stuff like:"Your dealership is very close to my house", "I am very serious in signing for this car before the end of this week", "I was refered by one of your current customers", "I heard that you had the best service in the region", or anything else to sound more interested.

I am saying that you MIGHT have been able to negociate with the sales manager to something very close to your offer had you gone in person.

Good luck!

I'd say otherwise based off of past experience. I send blanket e-mails to several dealers. They all know I am contacting multiple places for the best deal. I got way better numbers via internet salesmen then I did walking into the dealership and dealing with a floor salesman. May vary depending on location I guess, and time you plan to buy. When I picked mine up, every dealership I contacted had an SSM 6MT. I purchased an 04 model Dec 31 2003
I personally think they are still behind due to that train wreck. They'll eventually make up for those units though.

That was for a 2004 TSX. There has been $700 in price increases for the 2005 TSX. So, 27.5 is probably about right for a 2005 TSX 6MT with Nav. Good luck.

Hmm.. thanks guys, I'll try again. I'm pretty open to color choices, but I would like a 6MT/Navi. I'll also tell them that I'm interested in financing instead of only paying in cash.
