New 06 TSX!
Hi all - I'm a very new TSX owner (06, Glacier Blue) and obviously new here too. Looks like an interesting form - looking forward to learning more about my new car!
Actually it's not so new - 5K miles on it when I bought it a week ago, but can't for the life of me figure out why anyone would want to part with this car after only 5K miles. This is an amazing car and I couldn't be happier with it. It's all stock (so far), but had some nice factory adds (thanks to the prior owner) - gold emblem kit, fog lights to name a few. All stuff I wanted but when you shop used you have to get lucky sometimes.
My path might be a bit different than most in acquiring my TSX, as I owned a 2003 Honda Civic Hybrid before this (traded it in with 60K miles on it). So I spent 4 1/2 years in a very capable economy car, which in the end was it's undoing. I spend 2 hrs a day in my car, and while 45 MPG was nice, you still have to grind it out in a Civic. Marginal ride (being generous), noisy, limited seat adjustments - just a general absence of comforts that make a 60 minute drive bearable. So when I test drove the TSX, my Civic became the proverbial "knife in a gun fight". It wasn't a fair comparison to say the least - my Civic didn't stand a chance.
Oddly enough what drew me to the TSX was the mileage (well, aside from the obvious comfort, ride, power - you all drive one, you know ). Now that might not be a terribly popular reason given all the performance this car has to offer, but after you spend some time at 45 mpg, you get used to 500 miles on 11 gallons of gas. So imagine how happy I was when I recorded 31 mpg on my first tank (30% city, 70% highway). Better (or as good) as an Accord Hybrid, $7K less, and no batteries to fuss about. The -14 mpg is more than a fair trade for all the things this car has to offer.
So that's the story. If anyone is really interested in how I drive to get that MPG, I'd be glad to tell. 4+ years in a hybrid (and on hybrid forums) I've discussed "high efficiency driving" more than I care to admit. I won't bore anyone here with it unless it's of interest. To me, it just makes the TSX the perfect car.
Cheers!

probably just tons of road noise... not as much sound dampening as in the tsx. and a lot lighter

Sorry - I meant road noise. The harder tires didn't help (low-rolling resistance tires, standard on most hybrids). Actually the Toyota Prius is the only one with an electric-only mode at low speeds (if the batteries are charged enough). Prius owners call it "stealth mode". However once you get past start up speeds (like 20 mph) the engine kicks in. The Civic in contrast runs the gas engine all the time and just supplements with the electric motor when accellerating. The engine is actually very quiet (it's only a 1.3 L). You can actually hear the whine of the electric motor over it when it use. The noise is all road noise and wind. At times I had to blast the stereo to overcome it.

Congrats on your new purchase. You'll find that if you drive the TSX for economy you can do quite well. Keep it under 70 on the hwy and you can squeeze out 35mpg. I've noticed that my 04 TSX is quite noisy (road noise). I've read that the noise is mostly due to the OEM tires.

it's a car-drive it
congratulations and many miles of happy safe motoring. I am the proud owner of a 06 milano red/ebony 6spd/w nav. since nov 06. It has almost 8,000 miles and I average 32-33mpg on mixed traffic roads On strickly highways traveling 70-80mph I got almost 36mpg. the speed limit on this highway is 70
