A few of our lunatic friends have pushed their cars to 140 and 143 mph, and 200 kmh.

What tranny do people have who exceeded 120mph, or more specifically, more than 135? The final gear of the auto is 0.566 whereas in the 6 speed manual it is 0.659. If all of the above cars were redlined, the higher (highest) speed cars should be for the auto.

Any 6 speeds go 140 or more yet?

 

Yes, I have a 6MT. The only way, I believe, to get past 135mph in any reasonnable amount of time is to shift from 5th to 6th at the cutoff, so that your RPMs won't fall lower than 6000rpms. f you don't do this, the lack of power before 6000rpms prvents you from gaining much speed in 6th.

I don't think the 5AT would be quicker, even though it has a higher theoretical top speed. This is because the lower rpms would not yield enough hp to overcome the wind drag at high speeds.
