Neat Review -- TSX

I found this review of the TSX. I don't know if it's been posted. Even if it has, it deserves another post anyhow.

That link wasn't working for me, so I did a search and found the same link with Google and then loaded the cache page. That link to the cache page is:

It is a good, enthusiastic and accurate review, but the reviewer has never driven a 3-Series or A4. But then again, he never claimed it was better than either, just raved on the TSX.

Nice review, but you get the impression the writer has never driven any "nice" car before. His enthusiasm is a wee bit over the top. The phrase "giddy as a schoolgirl" comes to mind.

Yeah, it's a little weird. He writes real well and seems to know cars, yet he hasn't driven the 3-series or A4 -- Who IS this guy?? Is he really a car guy, or is he the art critic who just was assigned to do this because the car buy is on break?

But -- I think he was completely on target about the TSX, but then again maybe I'm not that objective.

BTW this was more than a "nice" review, it was extraordinary. But yeah, you have to consider the source.

The fella certainly is smitten with the TSX. His Accord review mentions the TSX ten times:

Nice get, major. From this additional review of his, I'm more impressed by his knowledge and opinion. He knows what he's talking about, and he writes very well. I'd have to guess he's not a full-time car enthusiast and maybe not the greatest expert, but clearly he knows enough. Although I couldn't help noticing that he speaks of the "two door sedan" version of the Accord. Aside from that, his main "fault" is that he just loves the TSX so much. In fact, he said he loved the TSX so much that he couldn't be fair to the Accord. Oddly, this review of the Accord is maybe the most positive thing I've seen in print about the TSX.

I stopped reading after this ...

"The company says the TSX is aimed to go head to head with the BMW 3 series and Audi A4. That's heady company; I haven't driven either of those other cars, but they must be really something if they're in the same league as this Acura."

Yeah, agreed -- I singled that out too. From that, he seems like a total car n00b, plus like he's in la-la land.

But doesn't just about everything else about these reviews make it seem like he's a very decent reviewer?

(Except the "2-door sedan" part.)

OK, parody time:

"Boy, that Barry Bonds can hit! Some people say he's as good as Babe Ruth or Willie Mays. I never heard of those guys, but if they're as good as Barry Bonds, they must be real good."

Anyone else wanna take a swing at it?

LSD gives the user a fantastic experience, and it is poised to compete with PCP and mescaline. I haven't tried either of those, but they must be great if they compare to the acid I just did!

If that were a quote from me, then it should be taken as compliments to BR and WM because I'm not the least bit interested in baseball. If I heard a professional sportscaster say that, then I'd say what an idiot. If this writer is a professional car reviewer, he should at least learn how to cover up his ignorance rather than tell everyone he doesn't have any experience.

I still agree with everything he said about the TSX, but he looses journalistic credibility by letting everyone know he isn't experienced at his job and is just another one of us amateurs falling in love with this great car.

It certainly makes the point that if you're looking at the Accord, you should also consider the TSX. Lots of Accord shoppers might prefer the TSX, but let it slip under their radar and not even consider it. Off the top, I can think of a few reasons that could happen:

1) The TSX has a lower profile wrt public mindshare.

2) It doesn't have a V6 and many will pass on it without driving it.

3) Some people might assume they can't afford an Acura.

I doubt anyone who really enjoys driving could read that Accord review and not go check out the TSX.

I don't think he's a professional car reviewer, though he is a professional writer. I think that "one of us" thing is part of his schtick, his site motto is "down-to-earth info for real world people". Most of his writing seems to be on tech topics. Maybe he does car reviews mostly so he can drive the press fleet loaners. I know I would if I could...
