Unhappy My First Dent

AHHHHH!!! i was backing up in a parking lot next to my friends RSX-S... He told me he was waving to me to stop but i didnt see him and i hit the civic behind me... Thing was that I was lining up with the RSX-S... I knew my car was longer so i stopped earlier but wen i inspected my car, the civic was parked ahead of the dividing line... i hit the the civics license plate... now there is a Dent on my rear bumper too small to pop out but noticeable AJGKSDLGJALJSDLJFDSLAJGDSA

Live and learn. There's not much you can do to get stuff out of the bumper, its plastic, I don't think it would pop out anyways.

Bumpers are evil - I got a nice scratch on mine by putting a baby stroller in the truck (damn you Peg Pergo!!!). The good thing is that the bumper is fairly cheap to fix (at least repaint) when the time is ready.

I have always had problems with repainted plastic. The paint never seems to stick long term.

Good luck with it if you have to have it repainted.

bah people who say that are probably pissed off adults that drove beaters when they were younger. i think honestly if the teenager is responsible they should be treated like so. ovbiously this is a responsible teenager that cares about his car otherwise the dent on it would not have bothered him enough to give it a second thought.

Actually, I think everyone should simply start with a beater. I'm sure glad my first real car was my sister's POS Neon

yes, well i can speak from expirence, beucase i too started out learning on a crappy car. i drove a geo metro for about 6 months. but i also learned how to drive in the snow in a new pathfinder... a bit more than my tsx... but like i said above, my parents wouldnt have bought me the car if 1 they couldnt afford it, and 2 if they couldnt trust me with it, whether it be driving too fast or taking care of it.

Hey you two 17 year-old, I can't relate having parents with the $ to buy me a $27k USD (or $35k CAD) car... I learned driving on a '89 Caravan, then got to drive a Tercel (3AT with 82 horses!!!) in my college days

Anyway, I think I got the coolest way to have learned the ropes about driving all sorts of different cars (and even trucks!)... back when I was your age (NOT that long ago I swear) I worked at a car rental place, so got to drive and park lots of different cars - though mostly domestic stuff as you can imagine being rentals - boy, do those V8 Towncars really haul or what!?!?!

Do enjoy and take good care of your rides [and yourselves]

I kinda agree. Think about how much that dent would bother him if he was actually paying for the car himself.

I had a pretty nice car as my first too (93 prelude si), but I paid for it myself. I got it at 16 and sold it at 21 and that car looked better the day I sold it than the day I bought it because I cared for it like my it was my child. I would not have cared as much for a piece of shit beeter however.

honestly, i dont think i would change much about how i act or think about my car if i acutally paid for it. honestly. since i am the only one who drives it, to me it is my own car. tho i do let my parents drive it from time to time, i basically get everything done for it. schedule mateince, clean it weekly, and whatever else is necissary. although i know its sad that its so rare to see a teenager my age (well next week im legal but thats besides the point) to take care of something that doesnt belong to them and treat is as if its thier own.

heres another thing, i dont pay for gas either. and i drive CONSANTLY. whether it be picking up my brother at sports or something, to running errands or driving to school. but im so anal about things i keep an excell sheet on how well my car is on gas. whenever i drive places and its just me in the car im ususaly concensious about gas mileage. tho i do hafta admit there are times that i just say screw it n go, but the majority of the time i play a little game trying to see how many miles i can get on a mile of gas.... no i dont put one gallon in and see how far it lasts either.

i do agree with you guys saying most teenagers dont care, i can count on one hand on the top of my head those who didnt pay for thier car and dont care either...

I don't think anyone is bashing teenagers because they don't care, but because caring is not a replacement for experience. I would guess that had the poster been driving longer he wouldn't have a parking lot accident (we all make mistakes though). People say teenagers should drive beaters because they're going to learn through (bad) experiences. There is simply no replacement for "seat time"

Yep... that is what I meant by my previous post. Hell, I was a teenager until a month ago. Of course, I don't think I would have admitted to that when I was 16 and trying to get a new car.

pffftt, i definatley agree seat time is byfar the greatest thing one could have... i am VERY greatful my parents let me and made me drive wherever i wanted to go. they wouldnt drive me when i had my permit, cuz i needed to learn. the first snow we had i was out there in an empty parking lot making doughnuts.

acutally i am quite suprised that down here teenagers fear the part of the driving test where they hafta pull into a STRAIGHT spot, like at a mall or something.... wtf? what happened to parallel parking? my test i had to take they busted out the ruler and was like your within the 5 inch line or something.....

it annoys me to see teenagers that are just out there driving becuase they just barely passed.

haha i do NOT pay for my car.
I
-pay for gas
-pay for insurance
-wash my car weekly till it meets my expectations
-give it the best care a teenager can give it.

all in all I love my TSX as it should be loved.

Although many of you think that teenagers are not fit to drive a car like this for their first car, I have shown my parents what kind of person I am regarding responsibility and safety. Im sure plenty of you out there have proven their worthiness too...

What I dont like though, is when a teenager is in a small fender bender or a accident, its almost always blamed on them. This stereotypical world puts alot of weight on the teens shoulders... :shakehead

Stereotype? Have you seen some of the accident statistics broken down by age?

I've been in three automobile collisions in my four years of driving, and all three occurred in the parking lot of my high school when other students collided with me. I too was a teenager just a few weeks ago, and generally speaking, they drive like idiots.

If its their fault (like it is in your case), why shouldnt they be blamed?

Every age group gets stereotyped, get used to it.

Bottom line is that statistics are just statistics; numbers indicating trends, nothing more. We all know there are always exceptions in any generalization, seems to me at least Dpak and Xtremespeed2102 are responsible teens just happen to have parents able and willing to buy them very nice cars as their early (or even 1st) cars.

If I were a parent who can afford a car like the TSX to my 17'er, I actually would NOT buy him/her that (regardless how responsible he/she is), would probably start him/her off with a nicely built brand new Civic or something. But their parents made their own choices, so none of our business. And we have no business bashing them just because they are 17 with TSX.

Funny thing about stats and people who read into them so much... Tell me, daniel1113, what exactly made the difference in you between the very seconds BEFORE and AFTER mid-night on your 20th birthday?

Growing up and learning to take responsibilities are progressive, as are most things in life, so don't take some bitter, jealous feeings out on these two guys just because they are still teens.

Have you even read my posts? I have nothing against teenagers (hence my comment about being a teenager not too long ago), but to say that teen auto collisions is a stereotype is awefully shortsighted. Perhaps "young drivers" would be better fitting to you? Also, notice that I said "generally speaking."

EDIT: Also, I'm not sure where you get the idea that I think I'm better than teenage drivers just because I'm a few weeks older than twenty. My point was that I was just recently a teenager, so I know how many of them drive; not that I'm a wiser person (although I'm sure we could argue that some other time).

Of course I have read your posts and everyone else's in this thread. And no need for name calling now...

My previous post was a direct response to your generalization about teenagers driving like idiots. This is what you wrote:

So isn't it a generalization statement suggesting teenagers driving like idiots? I realize you have indicated more than once you were a teenager short time ago. But who hasn't been once a teenager when they are 20+? So from your constant stating that you just turned 20 recently, I just got the impression that you are now 20 so you believe you are magically not idiotic just because of having turned from 19 to 20. That's all.

Do tell where this "name calling" is in any of my posts. Perhaps you shouldn't try and put words in my mouth, eh?

"I too was a teenager just a few weeks ago, and generally speaking, they drive like idiots."

How is that incorrect? Not only is this true from my own experience (hence the comment about my own age) but every age related automobile statistic available supports this.

This is getting quite hilarious... but WAY off topic... and it seems to be going in circles...

That seems to be name calling. If that's not what you intended then I am sorry for misunderstanding.

Amm... I didn't say your statement is incorrect dude. I am saying it's a generalization statement and generalization is bound to have exception cases. And I just point out the two 17ers here are apparently those exceptions.

There is also this rule in set theory (similar rule exists in logics) to consider:
"A belongs to B" does NOT mean "B must belong to A"

Example 1: "all mothers are females" does NOT mean "all females are mothers"

Example 2: "all dumb drivers are teenagers" does NOT mean "all teenagers are dumb drivers"

So inconclusion, you and I are on the same side man... well, as soon as you've picked a side coz you have said these things that are confusing me:

So what is it that you are trying to say?

I can tell you all I wanted to say initially was that stats are stats, numbers indicating trends, nothing more.
