My engine engine breaks for me????

i got a 06 tsx AUTO and whenever im going down a hill at high speeds(45-60mph)

and i press the brakes, the engine will engine brake for me. i see the rpms shooting

up to 3.5-4k rpms. I really dislike this because it causes a sudden jerk. plus i would

like to have full control of the car, not having some computer do it for me.

IS THIS VSA?

VSA is traction control. Its a Honda thing. Mine does it, my sisters Civic does it, my friends Accord does it.

if you keep it in SS mode, it won't do that to you

If you want full control of a car, a manual transmission is your best bet. Since your car is auto, try using the sport shift mode. if you're in ss mode, the car shouldn't switch gears on you automatically.

Not completely sure because I have a manual, but maybe someone with an auto can back me up. my

back on topic....
is there a way i can turn it off? why do they make a big deal out of brake pads now then? i would much rather replace my pads than my engine, over time its going to cause more weaaarr.

There is no way to turn off grade logic on the 5AT, Grade Logic been around for a long time on Honda/Acura. SS mode will be the best way to defeat it. Your engine can rev to +7000rpms, grade logic downshifting to 3,000-3,500 will not cause any problems. The car is just trying to maintain a constant speed down hills instead of accelerating too fast like other (American) cars.

Exactly. My '07 TSX 5AT does it as well, and I'm still getting used to it (drove American cars since the beginning of time w/o this "feature"). Grade logic control downshifting to ~3K or so will not hurt your engine.

I enjoy this feature on my AT. I find that it doesn't do it if I lightly touch the brakes though, I have to exaggerate just a smidgen to get the engine braking to kick in.

It prevents you from having your foot on your brake looking like an idiot to manual-transmission drivers. Be thankful for it.
