Are Mugen Parts Worth the Money?

I did a search and not very many topics talk about this so I think I can safely ask...

Are Mugen parts worth the money? I'm referring to their performance parts (intake, exhaust, header, etc.) and not their bodykit. All of them are over $1000 so I was wondering if their quality and gain is substantial to merit the cost. At the very least, I know it gives bragging rights to the ones who can afford it

There is one guy that has all of them, intake, headers, CAT, and Exhaust and all together the cost is just as much as the Hytech system and the with the Hytech system you would gain like double the HP, so i would venture to say no, they are not but that is just my

Prices from king motor sports.....
header + CAT = $2k + shipping
exhaust = $1738 + shipping
intake = $1078 + shipping

Total = $4816 = Almost the exact same price for Hytech which provides a lot better gains....

with Mugen you are paying for fit and finish and the duty fee's importing it. Mugen parts fit like gloves, the materials are of high quality and so are the welds. Tsxdriver has the entire mugen set up.

But it is very very very expensive and Hytech offers better gains, but Hytech from what I've heard is loud???? Mugen is pretty quiet when it comes to the exhaust set up.

If you're going for show, go Mugen. If you're going for performance, go with Hytech or an SC kit for that price.

it isn't worth the money for performance gains.

Yeah, as has been said, I've always seen Mugen parts as more suited to show cars. They are superb quality, partnered with Honda in Japan (? please correct if I am wrong here), and average gains. You pay a premium for the name. If you're more serious about performance your money is better spent on a Comptech Supercharger or the Hytech setup.

The HyTech proto-type version is loud. Production version will be quieter

that's what I keep hearing...but when will that version come out? And by making it quieter, I wonder if it'll lose some of the gains.......time will tell

When it comes out I will report back, which should be fairly soon [hopefully] I will be the frst to get a production one.

There shouldn't be any power loss, the resonator will be longer and the mufflers will have different material.

What's the general range of gains for getting a header+exhaust together?

typical for the header is something around 10 - 12 hp from various dynos on here. There seems to not be much difference between comptech header and DC header for gains. Most cat-backs offer 2 - 3 hp displayed on the manufacturer pages. Comptech exhaust for example nets about 2 - 3 hp on their page. You will get more performance gain from a header + cat than header + cat back. However; I should get mine dyno'd sometime with CT header, RT cat, CT ice box, and CT exhaust to see what the the net gain is with all four "easier breathers" upgrades employed

Since I'm driving a 07 5AT, I don't have the luxury of being able to buy a supercharger or getting Hondata. Also, I don't want that famous rattle from the comptech stuff that's been plaguing 05AT. Since my TSX won't "get that much more" powerful anyway, I think it would be nice to spend a little more for the show and fit-and-finish. Not to mention I'm in love with Mugen's exhaust note.

Mugen, here I come!

...in september.

Yes, Mugen is the way to go if you are willing to pay for the brand, build, and quality. Mugen Japan are closely related to Honda Japan (sister companies). Good luck with your choice.
