Messed up wheel
I was leaving my apartment complex yesterday morning. The exit has an automatic opening/closing gate. It opens when you get near it and is supposed to wait to shut when you leave. Unfortunately, when I was driving out, the car in front of me stopped suddenly which left me stuck in the middle of the gate. The sensor must have failed because the gate closed on my car.
Here's the best part: the gate is covered in this rubber material for just this reason, so when it closes on your car, all that happens is some rubber moves over your body and there are no scratches. It left some nasty rubber residue behind but that washed off completely. However, there is a huge screw that sticks out at the bottom of the gate, beyond all the rubber. This screw just happens to be at the same height as my wheels. It gouged the tire and the wheel. The tire is probably fine, but the wheel is really, really scratched. The gouge is really deep. Sucks.
I told them about it and they made an "incident report" and will "review it" on monday and then who knows what will happen. My local Acura shop says a new wheel is $498. Sigh.

I am attempting to make them pay, like I said in my original post, I filed a claim with them and the manager has to review it, who won't be in until Monday. I'm going to try and do it their way first, since I have to effectively live with them (on-site management.) I think they'll probably pay.
But damn man, a rubber coated gate with a screw sticking out of it, how stupid is that. This is bumming me out quite a bit, but I keep telling myself that it could have been a lot worse if it was an actual body panel that got messed up.

Yeah, it looks like it'd be pretty stupid to buy a new one right from my dealership. Maybe this is a sign I should switch to some aftermarket wheels? Any recommendations along those lines? Would like to stay with 17" and the same tires I've got now, but otherwise something lighter might be good, right?
