Mazda's TSX Eater is comming :(

Mazda6 Speed:

274 hp, 280 lb-ft of torque (Targeted estimates)
Direct-injection...Turbocharged ... Intercooled... 2.3-liter inline-4...

Active Torque Split All-Wheel-Drive System...Limited-slip rear differential...6-Speed manual shifter.

http://www.mazdausa.com/MusaWeb/static/mazdaSpeed6.html

I bet it will cost 35k even though their site says 29k. That seems cheep.

Yea, but the Speed6 is FAT, and not in the good ghetto meaning of the word. At 3,600lbs, the thing's got 450lbs on a WRX! It's more of a competator against the Legacy 2.5GT, and even that comes in 250lbs lighter.

I don't understand how the same company that produced the new MX-5, where they shaved every un-needed ounce, could produce such a bloated sports-sedan. That is what drove me away from the 6 in the first place, even with the added power of the V6, it felt heavy.

The TSX, IMO, isn't about power as much as it is finesse... and an amazing luxury / value mix.

I just bougth a 05 Mazda6 V6 mtx a month ago.

If I had to do it all again, I think I would have paid up for a TSX MTX no nav.

In one month I have been back to the dealer 3 times for clutch issues and the problem is still there. Its a vibration in the clutch if I rev it up in the lower gears.

Gaps and misaligned panels exterior and interior, I bought my car at night so I didnt notice it till later.

Yeah, its too late of course, I would take a 2 to 3 grand loss if I got rid of the 6 and went for the tsx. I dont have it to waste.

As for the actual driving exp, the 6 fills all my needs

1. Quick to rev
2. V6 growl with a very smooth engine
3. A smooth tranny in MTX
4. Great looks with the sports package

Now I am a totally nitpicker since this is the most I have ever spent on a car, so anything wrong with it lets me down.

If my 6 had been perfect, I would have zero complaints and not think twice about a TSX.

all i can say is..........speed is not everything, else everyone would be driving a wrx or mustang, which neither cost much more than tsx. mustang V6 4 liter cost less. Quality and refinement count for me

In the recent issue of Import Tuner they spied the Mazda3Speed... Mazda3Speed>Mazda6Speed, no news about the engine on the car, but it is supposedly going to be a 2.0 - 2.4 liter turbo!

Mazda does make fun cars, Their engines dont make much torque so you have to rev them out, as in the saying zoom zoom.

If only their fit and finish was near Toyota and Honda they would be a top automaker.

We should be glad that Ford (I mean Mazda) is offering such a competitive high performance level Japan built product to keep Honda, Nissan, Toyota honest.

Without such competition these cars would never improve (why do you think the new Civic is coming). Obviously this 6 is for people who want sheer power/awd capability over some refinement/luxury for the same amount of money, which is a choice some drivers will make.

but Maybe TSX will get 220HP in the 06 after all !

Don't care....neither the stock Mazda 6 or this new one interests me. A better value with just about the same attributes would be a Subi Legacy GT. In the MS6 price range, the TL/G35 are just as fast and more lux. For pure performance, WRX/EVO are MUCH more appealing.

I just looked at the pics of this car and I'm not impressed. One look at the interior will tell you that it's a rip off. The seating looks dull and the shift boot looks cheap as all out. And the rearend of this car looks hideous. Mazda will have fun trying to sell that car for $30K......

No editing your own message after 5 minutes? Bizarre.

2.3L Intercooled turbo, 274hp, same as the Mazdaspeed 6. 4 wheel drive of course, and some seriously big ass brakes if the picture in Sept. Sports Car Intl. is any indication.

Ya know, with a configuration like that on the 3, it makes me wonder if Mazda plans on throwing their hat into the World Rally Championship ring. Peugeot and Citroen are leaving the series after this season..........

Acura, as much as I love the TSX, you need to wring another silky-smooth 20-30 hp and lb-ft out of that 4-cyl or you're going to lose those first-place accolades you've been collecting.

I do love driving my car, don't want so much power that it torque-steers, just want more oomph!

Sit in a Mazda with 20k miles on it, then sit in a TSX with 20k miles on it, the right choice will be clear at that point. For some reason the Mazda 6 just doesn't age gracefully, I think the interior wear must be due to poor quality materials used from the start. It looks nice new, but the pleather doesn't hold up well on 6. Not to mention the cars drive very different and I feel aren't really direct competetion with each other - sure the 6 may have the speed advantage, but the TSX has the all around advantage, its just a very well balanced package.

All im saying is that the TSX looks like something a house-wife would drive. Oh and guess who drives our TSX...my wife.

My actually looked at both the 6 and TSX and my wife preferred the more simple design of the TSX. If it had been up to me (which in a marrage its never up to the man) I would have taken the 6 becuase the looks of it are fer more sporty and appealing. But, since she wanted the acura..I had to fork up the extra $$$ to pay for the badge...thats the way marrage works.

The specs look like it's load of fun!

At $29k (USD), it would sell like hotcakes... but what's with the $35k speculation? If it was for $35k, then it's not so hot.

I think that more oomph you want (and I want too) on the TSX is what Hondata provides... that makes me more anxious to hear when they'll have the '05 reflash.

Yeah I do believe that the actualy quality of the Acura is better. Acura has a very good track record of rbuilding high quality vehicles...however I do think the Mazda would be more fun to own. Like you said...something for everyone!

The specs on this MazdaSpeed6 do spell F U N. But for me, I'd only like to drive it but probably not want to own it. I'd go test drive one when it's in.

That is a pretty silly quote. I would have still gotten a TSX over a TL if they were given at the same price. I am sure that many people on this board would agree with me that the TSX is a way different car than the TL which is kind of a boat.

BTW...doesn't the Mazda have an engine that comes from Ford? If that is true there is no sense in discussing if it is a TSX eater or not.
