Manual Shift Knob...

Manual Shift Knob...
With all the heat we are having this summer in the DC Metro area, I find my shift knob extremely hot when I get to the car in the afternoon. I have the stock knob and all the metal is driving me nuts, I have to drive with something covering it up the whole way home. Anyone have recomendations for a good aftermarket knob? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

just dont cup the top untill it cools...i grip around the leather untill my a/c vents can cool it off
edit:other than that momo makes some knobs with leather on them...and there are plenty of carbon fiber knobs out there

well i know leather would be...just feel how hot your leather is next time...its an animals skin so its not gonna heat up like metal...and as for carbon fiber, its not metal so it should be better

Welcome to the forum dude... glad to have another NOVA person in here, we'll have to have another meet soon (damn I'm a problem starter... I always suggest these things and then CG does all the work )

I gave up trying to cover the knob. My wife even sewed me a cozy to cover it during the winter. (In winter the knob gets really really cold). Finally I just bought a pair of driving gloves. Sure I may look like a dork, but my hand doesn't look like the guy from Raiders of the lost ark either.

In which case I suggest War Eagle grow a pair and pre-order an AZ knob.

I replaced my base Prelude's weird blocky shifter with the nice leather one for the SH model. That was just about right. I would be tempted to try that and see if it fits the TSX, except that it lists the 5-speed positions on the top, not 6-speed. I saw a similar aftermarket model (could have been Momo, I don't recall) that was blank on top. Even if I know where the gears are, when I take the car to be serviced, I'd just as soon not have them hunt around trying to figure out where R is. Anyway, I haven't had too much of a heat problem yet, but I'd like something a tad larger even if it isn't as cool looking.

They may have improved since then but that's the only experience I've had with them.
Edit: Forgot to mention that the three setscrew design they have for securing the knob to the shaft is really crappy. The screws will get loose over time so you can be driving down the road and the knob will come off in your hands. Also because the screws are pointy, they damage the threads on the shaft.

I have the same problem. Even when parking in the shade, the car interior get's so hot that the knob is really hot. My shades also get really hot in the holder, but 3 secs of fresh AC blown on them takes care of the problem.
For the knob, I was thinking about getting a wooden one... but I'm a woodworker, so I like dead trees more than most people. I probably ought to just turn my own. I've got a big pecan branch laying around...
This guy has them for $60 laser engraved. I could whip up a TSX logo and 6-spd shift pattern graphic.

The nice thing is that, like leather, wood has a low specific heat, so it won't hold the heat against your hand like a metal knob. Of course, down here in Tejas, it might just ignite instead
