Maint. Req'd Light

I noticed this morning when I fired up the car that the Maint. Req'd light was flashing. (Not the normal when you start the car and its on, but really flashing) I know I'm due for my next oil change within 300 miles. My baby is still fairly new she has 8,100 miles on her since June.

Is this light flashing in reference to my oil change or will there be something else? Teach me ol' wise ones!

How many total miles? It's not gonna be the oil change, but it could be a service light. The light comes on at 10k 20k etc. etc.

It's just telling you to bring it in for a scheduled maitainence. You can turn it off yourself, i'm pretty sure you just hold the reset button for about 10 seconds with the key in the "on" position.

Got to love this forumn someone always seems to have an answr to a problem/question I'm having- I just started getting the flashing maint. required light yesterday morning.

Course I'm at about 20K so I'm sure I need oil change.

Big Trouble

Maint. Required Light can mean several things, all of them bad.

a) No oil in the engine, it may seize up any moment.
b) Fuel system leaking, engine using bad fuel mix, need new engine
c) Oil and coolant mixing, main gasket blown, need new engine
d) overrotation of valve cams, valve springs need changing
e) overfilled blinker fluid, electrical system problem may result.

or, if you you'd know its just a normal. The system is reminding you that 10K service is coming up.

I'm pretty positive to reset it, you hold the milege reset button in while turning the ignition (not starting the car, but the one before the starter) on 4 times.

No, this isn't an Audi, nice try.

b) Fuel system leaking, engine using bad fuel mix, need new engine
See above.

c) Oil and coolant mixing, main gasket blown, need new engine
Heh.

d) overrotation of valve cams, valve springs need changing
Can you even overrotate a valve cam? Can you rotate a valve cam period?

e) overfilled blinker fluid, electrical system problem may result.

Enjoying this forum when he should be doing work,

Maintenance light

I have the same problem and have tried to turn off the Maintenance Required light using the two methods suggested, but to no avail. Anyone else have any suggestions?

maintenance light flashes at startup (I think 10 times) when you are at 8,000 miles from the last reset. At 10,000 it should remain illuminated to get in your face and have you come in for service
