Question M3 Spoiler

Question, the M3 lip spoiler that I'm seeing as a MOD..is that the 3M stick on? Or is that drilled down? Do they even make a drill down?

The 3M tape doesn't worry you? I want to buy it too, but I'm worried that it might start weaking in the Florida heat, and then leave glue marks....

I would like to get the spoiler also, but i am concerned about this too. It gets pretty hot down here i dont want my spoiler's glue coming off and flying off in the expressway.

ask some members that have had it on for some time now in your area....I want it too, but I'm scared of the same reasons, just that it not the hot weather that would damage the glue but the cold ass weather and snow we get in the winter in Jersey.

That 3M adhesive for the M3 lipspoiler (3M for M3 ) is VERY Strong if you install it correctly. Mind you, it has withheld Seattle weather plus touchless car washes!

But I first cleaned the area first, then heated the area with the blowdryer before and after applying the spoiler, then put constant pressure on it for about 10 min.

I was able to find the exact 3M adhesive that was used on the spoiler except in a wider roll (pick it up at Home Depot).

I noticed that there are 2 thin strips of 3M that comes with the spoiler is visible with the gap in between after you install it, only on the far left and right edges you can see the adhesive.

So I removed about half an inch of the adhesive off the far left and right edges of the spoiler, then with my new adhesive, cut half inch solid squares rather than the two strips and replaced it on the edges. So in blends in more and if you have a dark colored TSX, you can even black sharpie the edges of the adhesive so you dont see any of the adhesive.

how noticable is this spoiler really....

I mean i keep debating whether or not i really want it... i dont want the shopping cart spoiler that acura sells, but I dont necessarily want just a lip either...

i just want something on the back deck thats like small and subtle....

like the spoiler on my old CL--- I hated the way the back was so rounded, and the spoiler squared it off and IMO made the car...

the ones that I have seen that I like, like the mugen one is rediculiously expensive.

I wish they made a smaller wing for the tsx like this:

NJ winter
NJ doesn't get as cold as Canada - where several members have the spoiler - does it ?
Never heard any of them complaining about it.

Dont worry just make sure you clean the trunk with alcohol then put it on. once it is set in place press down on the whole thing for 30 seconds and dont wash your car for two days after that you should not have any problems...

For those getting these spoilers, are you ordering close to your TSX color, and hoping that it matches, or are you getting them painted using the exact TSX color? I'm wondering with anything which is sort of flexible (certainly bumper and door molding pieces, and maybe these lip spoilers) whether you can get good adhesion with the paint, or if eventually they'll start to peel.

I have a question. I'm going to install my M3 Lip spoiler this weekend. I've heard from many here that you have to make sure the surface of the trunk is grease free. and many have mentioned rebbing alcohol to clean the surface. Now my question is, what happens if 2 or 3 years down the road you decide not to have the lip spoiler. Would it be easy to take off? and most importantly would the 3M adhesive damage the paint if and once have taken the spioler off? Please any suggestions?

I think many underestimate the holding power of the tape. It's very sticky and strong. I'd make sure the surface is free of dust and is dry before using it.
If you remove it down the line, some mild solvent will help loosen it but I'd think it a chore to get it off (but not impossible).

BTW, I just installed the Mugen Air Spoiler last weekend but it required drilling a hole on each side plus a good amount of tape. For me it's a little more than the M3 spoiler but still non-descript enough as not to scream 'look at me!'. I posted pics if you want to take a peek and see how it looks. I like it.

sorry to bump a yr old topic, i try searching and maybe overlooked the answer i was seeking. if i do decide to have the lip spoiler removed would it damage the paint, since its being attached on by the 3m tape or w/e . anyways if anyone know or can answer, thanks in advance

I like the rburns spoiler on ebay...see it here:

http://www.geocities.com/dd24point5@...SXSpoiler.html

Excellent color match, simple install. Complaints from others about spoiler not going "all the way to the edge" of the trunk lid, I think it looks fine. This summer was hot and dry (several 100+ days) and the spoiler sits there still!
