Loud click on gear engage?
Hey guys, i have a 06 AT and just was curious last time when parking so i opened my window and turned off the ac and the radio to hear the engine. One thing i noticed when pushing the gear into P or D, the engine bay makes some audible clicking noises. Never noticing this before, i wonder if that was normal because it seemed pretty loud.

I notice this too (06 AT), but it only seems to happen when I put it into Drive for the first time (when it's not warmed up). There's a definite click about half a second after it hits D. I'd be curious if others know what this is, or if it's normal.

heyy.. i noticed that sound today too... it sounded like the metal part of the seat belt just knocked on the side when you unbuckle too fast or something like that right? almost like a *pop*? I wasn't sure since i only heard it once but I never take note of noises other than the music.

Mine has made this sound since I took my car on the initial test drive (and I'm tipping the odometer at 85k miles). Since it seems that a majority of the AT owners notice this sound (I'm sure they all make this sound), I would say it's safe to assume that this is normal.
Or that this sound is a component that isn't receiving ATF that should. It is going to eventually seize, all our transmissions are going to fail and/or encounter major problems in the future, and Acura is going to have a major AT recall and/or lawsuit against them.
Just kidding!

I am just one more AT (07) owner that has this same sound. Mine is more pronounced, especially in the morning (when cold)...shifting from P into D. Happens about 80% of the time & ~ 1 sec after the shift. I would say for me it's more than a "loud click"...in fact, the first time I heard it I thought there was something seriously wrong with my tranny. Then I just learned to live with it...so don't sweat it, it's normal.

Would the ABS self check be louder depending on load?
I've found that if I shift into gear and wait a few seconds, then take off, there is no click. If I shift into gear and quickly become heavy on the accelerator, the click is much louder. I can get the click to really be noticeable when shifting from reverse to drive (and vice versa) and quickly giving it moderate pedal.
All in all, it doesn't bug me.

hrm..i wasn't concerned that it was a problem too much, but just curious what the click was. It just seemed so pronounced becuase other cars i've watch when they shift to drive never made such a loud distinct click.

mine does this too and so do other k series transmission. i hear it on my neighbor's Element.
one time i was rolling to a stop sign in neutral and put in D while it was still in motion and it grinded.
i wish these trannies were designed like the older generation trannies.
