Looking at this TSX.

I am looking at an 06 TSX certified from Acura for 7yr/100k. The carfax shows an accident and the car was bought in 08 with 35k miles. The car is being sold again with almost 37k miles.

http://www.carfax.com/VehicleHistory...CL96836C007391

Good deal or no? Its only $14k and its will be a third car. I have never owned an Acura before.

I'd probably pass. You don't know how bad the accident was. It could have been something simple like a fender bender, or maybe it was something a little worse. Either way, unless I knew the exact history, I'd hold out for something else.

Well won't hurt taking a look at. When I bought my BMW this past summer I saw several with accidents and they drove/rode fine.

With an Acura I am expecting Honda type mantence?

I purchased a car once that was in an accident (before carfax) with about 25,000 on the ODO. The dealer never told me (and I did not ask) if the car was in an accident. The car looked perfect and drove great for about a year. Then I started to have minor electrical problems, oil leaks, and rear tire wear problems. Took it back to the dealership and found out the car was in an accident at 14,000 miles. The ODO was replaced because of the accident and the car had 40,000 miles, not 25,000 as advertised. The dealership gave me some money because of the odo mis-read and I kept the car like a dumb A$$ (88 Merkur Scorpio). That car was nothing but trouble the entire time I had it. The resell was a lot lower than what I owed and trade-in was next to nothing. I had more electrical problems, paint started to flake, and them my drive shaft exploded on the highway on the way home from work. After this is when I purchased my 1st Honda and drove nothing else for +20 years.

Unless I was the one driving and I knew what was damaged and how it was repaired, I would look for something else.

Well it was rear-ended so I would take it to a body shop to see if the frame was ever bent at all. If the frame looks good, and doesn't look like it was ever twisted, it prob wasn't a high impact to cause any problems with the rear-end.

Also taking it on the highway at a high speed will be able to tell you if there is an issue with the rear-end. You'll feel the car pull to one side, even if the car is aligned perfectly.

I also find it a bit unnerving that a car that's been in an accident can still be sold as CPO. IMO, you are paying a premium for a CPO car, and hence it should be in near perfect condition. As with any used car, I'd expect nicks and scratches here and there, but an accident? That should be grounds for disqualification from a CPO program.

Which could mean the accident was hardly an accident....

when my 05 was less than 2 weeks old someone backed into (they backed out of of a parking space and were not looking) My car got a small dent that was fixed using the other driver's insurance. When I traded in my car it showed up on carfax and the dealer still considered it a CPO car since they did all the service and knew how well it was taken care of. They also knew about the small dent ($1,200 worth)The body shop did an excellent repairing it

Yeah its a small fender bender they have pictures. The lady who I spoke to told me the 7 year/100k warranty starts when I buy the car. So it will end in 2017.

Is this true? My BMW has CPO from in service date. But Acura says your warranty starts when you buy the car.

Also is the carfax looking strange. The second owner drove it less then 2k miles for a year.

$14,000 for an '06 with 37k miles seems too good to be true. I'd get it checked out by a certified Acura mechanic; if it passes, then it should be fine.

Is the car being sold by an Acura dealership? If not, I'd highly doubt that the 7yr/100k warranty starts from your purchase date.

Warranty on CPO cars is 4 yrs/50k miles from the original in-service date, plus one year / 12k miles. That's the bumper to bumper warranty. The drivetrain is a bit longer.
