Looking for Trunk spring install tool
Looking for Trunk spring install tool
I just bought some have duty Trunk torison bars and was wondering if anyone has installed without the special install/removal tool? I've seen a hammer being used to remove. But will it also work to install? Is it safe?
Thoughts??

godfahter2, after posting this yesterday I decided I was going to tackle it. I started off with a hammer and was able to remove them very easily. Just be careful, because when the trunk is completely open they are "torqued". But not so much that you can't control with your hand.
Once you remove the square hook end from the bracket, you will have to close the trunk a bit to remove the other end (round hook end). Not enough clearance when the trunk is fully open.
It was putting the new ones in, that took some thinking because i did not have the "trunk tool". However, I got around it by taking a scrap piece of metal, about 10" long X 3/4" wide. It was actually an old locking bar I had around from an old Craftsman ttol box. Hammered in a hook at one end and bent it about about 45, about 2" below the hook to get some leverage. It worked out perfect! I'll post pictures later this morning.
The whole project took about 20 min. The results... AWESOME!!!
I'd installed a spoiler and the stock "srpings" would'nt open the trunk even 1/2 inch. I bought these froma Acura. My friend works at a local dealer. Not sure if they sell without ordering the spoiler, too. These new springs make a huge difference. The trunk now opens just short of half way.
I'll post pictures of the tool and how to use it later this morning.
Good luck.
