Looking at 2004 TSX Purchase

Hey guys, I'm looking to purchase a 2004 TSX auto. Anything I should be on the lookout for? Any known issues with this year?

Thanks in advance.

This seems like a popular question around here. What I found is A/C compressor failures and dash light problems. Anyone speak to these?

many people on this forum would recommend that you stay away from the 04. aside from being ~7-8 years old, the problems that tend to accompany the 04 are very costly to fix. 06 - 08 are pretty reliable, and then 09-10 have another whole slew of issues.

Love my 04 but there are issues

I have driven my 2004 since new in August 2003. I have not had a major mechanical failure and just clicked past 150k miles. I have had the center console display failure fixed under warranty. I went through two sets of warped OEM brake rotors and finally went aftermarket when the warranty was up. I burn a bit less than a quart of oil every 5000 miles. The driver's seat buckle was replaced under warranty. I have absolutely no complaints about my own TSX. I'm confident it will see 200 if not 250k miles.

Our 04 has 100k and no real issues so far. The a/c can be an issue.

You will of course find those that have had no issues with their 04's, but unless you're a true gambling man, most here (including me) will recommend that you stay away from the 04 model year. You should be able to find an 05 for similar money and they've experienced none of the issues that have plagued the 04's. Aside from some 04 model year cars, the rest of the 1st gen. model years have been pretty bulletproof.

That said, if it's a screaming deal, and you really like the car, chances are probably good that most or all of the problems associated with the 04's that may have effected the car in question will have been addressed.

So, now that you're good and confused...... buy an 05 (and you'll love it by the way).

For a little more you can probably find an '06 that would not only avoid the problems the 04 had but also benefit from the MMC updates.

FWIW, I have an 08 NBP 6spd. Definitely a fun car. Echoing the sentiments from everyone else, the AC issue is mainly what plagued the 04 models.

I have 145k miles on my 2004 TSX, and have had the identical items fixed on my car, under warranty. I have avoided the major AC failure, so far, and do not have any oil usage issues. I would go with a 2005 or later if possible.
