Question Lookin at buyin a TSX in 2-3 weeks

lookin at buyin an Acura in 2-3 weeks and i'm considering the TSX but have one drawback .......will i be let down by the power of it's four cylinder, and is it's interior small? If i get a TSX i'll be looking into getting it with ssm/ebony/navi/auto.

let me know if you guys are happy with your TSX purchase so far and if the power of the car feels sufficient.

I think id be happier with about 15 more whp.
Of course this could be the tim the toolman taylor syndrome i have.
More power!!!
A few add on mods will make me happy.
I think you will find that the value of the TSX and its exclusivity will far outwiegh any performance issues you may have. I think im going to take tinkys advice and get a lighter wheel tire package.
My advice
Test drive!!!!!
Only you can prevent forest fires errr i mean only you know exactly what you will like and dislike about the TSX.
Test drive it and then tell us what you think!

Personally, I have no problem with the power or acceleration in the TSX. In day-to-day driving, it feels very lively.

The TSX has other limitations, however.

I purchased my TSX because I sold Acura's. I left the car business about a month ago. After being away from the buz and getting rid of the mind set that you have to like what you sell, I still think I would buy the TSX. I love mine. I've never been focused on power. My main focus was purchasing a car with leather/heated seats, climate control, 6 disc, safety, handling and style. The number 1 reason I picked the TSX was interior room. I'm 6'4" and headroom is always a concern. There is significant interior room except for behind me.

Somewhat stiff ride (although I admit that is not a major issue), so-so brakes, disappointing tires, and mixed feelings about the HIDS. Love the looks, interior styling, features and refinement, tdriventrain, and tranny. On whole, it is a great car. Not perfect though.

The only thing I would disagree with is the tires. But I live in an area that gets enough snow but not too much...

At first it was very difficult to get used to the HID's but now I don't know any different. Ya know?

I disagree about the ride, but this is a topic that has been discussed ad nauseum. I'd call it firm, not stiff, but that is definitely a personal preference. I am happy with the power as well.

Darth, I don't really understand how you can not like the ride, but not think it is a major issue with the car (for you). For me it's one of the most integral aspects of a car that forms my opinion.

Perhaps the issue has to do with our experiences with past cars. I used to drive USDM Accords - which had reasonably comfortable rides - although more taut than a typical family oriented vehicle.

I think you would like a Passat. It is a great trade between comfort and sportiness. When I'm behind the wheel of ours now it feels like a Lincoln after I've been driving the TSX, but overall I think its an impressive blend.

kinggeorge, welcome and good luck with your decision. I've had the TSX about 2.5 months now, and I think the power is just fine. When first shopping cars, I was really against the idea of a 4-banger. My criteria was "4 doors, 5 gears (mt), 6 cylinders and a sunroof". But I kept an open mind and drove the TSX anyway. I found that in real driving the engine had "adequate horsepower" (to borrow a phrase from Rolls-Royce). Sure, more would be better, but the car is such a nice all-round package and good value.

There is a little less room in the back seat than in the Accord, but not much different up front. A little narrower, but definitely not cramped feeling. It feels roomier than the BMW 3 for instance.

As far as the ride, I don't think it's too stiff, but I wouldn't want it much stiffer. It has a nice taut feeling - a little less body roll/brake dive would be nice, but not at the expense of a harsher ride.

Yeah, a Passat would have been nice. I didn't trust the reiliability of VW though and, at the end of the day, I'm a Honda man!

After four months of ownership, and a number of autocross event, I can't stick with my much earlier opinion about the engine. Now, I can't really say the car has "Adequate power". The engine is great, but it'll work better on a car 200lbs lighter. The brakes are so so, the build quality on mine is really dissapointing, and the car dives and squats when driven hard. What's lack if is compensated in other areas like balanced handling, nice int/exterior, value, reliability, etc.

Overall, I would say TSX is a great car, but if your main focus on a car is sportiness, look elsewhere (for a lighter car).

i'm just a guy who's lookin for power in the engine....& i was worried that the power of the TSX wouldn't keep me interested in the long run. But from what you guys are sayin...it seems like u guys are happy with power, ride, & interior room.

i'd still be happy to hear what else u guys have to say about the TSX.

Coming from driving V6s for the last 5 years I was use to a lot of low end power (passat, camry, sable <--- yes american). This is my first car and it took a little getting used to because I wasn't used to reving the engine up, but realized that hondas are made to be pushed. Before I realized I had to rev it up, I thought the car was a little under powered. But now, I'm reving high and loving it! These cars are made to be reved up and you will feel its power. It's no M3, but fast enough to not be getting a ticket.

I'm curious to see what 0-60 really is now after the engine has been broken in because I feel like I can do 0-60 must faster than 7 secs, let me go start a thread on that.

The engine definitely performs better after some miles. For the price, there is no faster car with the ride quality and features like the TSX. Depending on your priorities will determine what car you will like most. About the stiffness/firmness it's the payoff for the handling.

Good point. Weight is the biggest enemy. However, I am talking about this specific engine in this specific car. It is a tad underpowered when it's matched to our heavy (3200lb+) car. I felt it the most when I'm trying to power out of a tight corner when the 1st gear is too short and 2nd is too tall to make the engine rev in it's sweet spot.

I have to say that I am completely satisfied with the power in this car. You do have to rev it to get to the sweet spot, but I it is pretty rare that a I feel a need or desire for more performance. That might be because I live in a congested urban area and don't get to open it up much. But, I love the drivetrain.

The engine and tranny are strengths of this car, IMO.

I like the "Sequential SportShift" mode, it's smoother than a MT only because the computer will not allow it to be jerky. It's not faster and I don't think it's better for all out sport driving. However it's a nice substitute for drivers that don't want to or can't have a MT. I personally have not used it that much. The times I do use it are: entering the highway, passing and the occasional play time.

This might be a good poll. How many do use there "Sequential SportShift" mode. I use it less than once a week.

The automatic is incredibly smooth - the smootest I've ever driven, in fact.
