Locks and Ignition

When I turn off the car are the locks supposed to open? Similarly when I start the car should the locks engage?

Mine don't... but the locks in every other car worked this way.

[ps anyone know what it means when you open your car and the ignition gives you a beep or two?]

i don't think the tsx automatically locks/unlocks due to engine start/shutdown. i dont' remember reading anything about this option in the manual. sorry... guess we gotta live w/o it.

the half chime that you're hearing when you unlock the door. it has been shown that it happens when you open the door immediately after you unlock it.

I agree!!! Why they didn't program that function in is pure speculation amongst my friends and I. We think it is a safety thing for not having auto-unlock, but we can't figure out why there isn't auto-locking.

Also, b/c the lights blink on unlock, when you open the door, the car "half-chimes" because of that. Give it a few seconds, then open the door. You won't hear the sound. My wife's 01 Civic Ex does this too.

My last car did this, but only because the after-market alarm provided for that feature. I liked it, and kinda miss it. Some other functions work better without a full-alarm though.

Our company cars have auto-locking and I find this to be most annoying......can't open the drivers door from inside without first unlocking......but maybe if one lived in a high crime metropolitan area this would be a good feature

Auto-lockling is VERY annoying, and I am glad this car doesnt have that. I think its a GM thing.

Now not having the auto-headlights...thats very strange.

Auto lock is annoying--I think it's on GM, Chrysler (just the domestic divisions), and Ford products. Luckily, it can be disabled. I don't think auto-lock is meant for a luxury car (or entry-level luxury car). Don't know why...but that's just how I feel. Auto-lock seems to have a cheap feel to it.

As for auto-headlights--Acura couldn't put this feature on the TSX because they either are saving the feature for later, or probably more because not even the TL has this feature (yet)--they want to reserve this feature for their more expensive models.

BTW--What vehicles have the un-locking feature when you remove your key?

If this is the real reason, then its pretty lame considering pontiac has had this feature in all their cars for at least 10 years.

There must be another reason.

Hey, FDL and SPUD -- I think you might be a little wrong about this.

Don't remember for sure, but I'm pretty sure my '03 TL-S had it.

Slight difference of opinion -- and a couple of heavyweights, too!

Looks like another Thrilla in Manila shaping up.

Auto locking isn't that bad on some cars i've seen. My friend has a 98 Dodge stratus that auto locks the doors at 15 mph. When you pull the inside door handle to get out, the door unlocks. Hmm I wonder what would happen if I tried to open the door going over 15 mph? I'll give it a try.

I don't think anyone much minds auto lock if the car also has auto unlock.

Just want to let everyone know that Auto-lock and Auto-unlock can be done on the TSX with an aftermarket alarm. I installed a Sidewinder Alarm and it has this feature. Auto-unlock is cool, I could do without the Auto-lock. It works like this, when the key is turned to START, the doors lock. If a door is open at the time the key is turned to START, the doors will not auto-lock.

Also, when disarming, the Sidewinder Alarm unlocks all 4 doors on the first push of the key fob. I do have the option of using the OEM Alarm to just unlock the driver's door in high crime areas.

There are no Acuras that have factory auto-lock or unlock on them at all. Period. I think I'd know. :P

I'm with you fpl...auto-locking is annoying.

As far as auto headlights on the TSX. I just leave my lights on, they shut themselves off after 15 sec anyway. Plus, when I remotely unlock my car or open the driver's side door the lights come on (I kind of dig it). Now if I could just shut off the warning chime.
