Lo-Jack Experiences?

My dealer was trying to push the lo-jack product. They wanted $1311 for it with lifetime service (no monthly fee).

Has anyone had experience with it? How's the pricing? Did anyone get any discounts on car insurance for having a lo-jack?

I have a similar offer from my dealer and passed. The car has an imobilizer, alarm, and security sound system. Also, sometimes I put a wheel lock on it. If somebody gets it after all that, they've earned it.

I got it put in. I don't remember what the price was though. I was expecting to get a discount on insurance, but I have state farm and they don't give a discount for lojack. I would check with your insurance company first. When I bought the car, they said it would only take 20 minutes to install, but when I had it installed, it took about three hours. Apparently someone from lojack has to come out and install it, not the dealership itself. I Got them to give me a loaner during that time so it was no big deal.

You have insurance, right? :p You're paying twice for the same thing if you get insurance and a Lo-Jack. You probably get a reduced premium if you have a Lo-Jack, though, but I doubt enough to make up for the price.

Until the insurance companies make the ROI two years, it isn't worth it. My dealers for my current cars didn't even waste more than one second to ask "Do you want lo-jack?" and after I said "No" they said "Good, waste of money for the most part".

I had lojack installed on my prelude awhile back for $700-800 because I thought I could make it back through insurance. The ins comp I had gave a 10% discount, but it was not a discount on the whole premium. Unfortunately it was only applied to the comprehensive section which was only $120 for 6 months. so i saved about $24 p/year on ins, at that rate I would need to keep the car for 29 years to get my money back, considering the premium stays the same.

fortunately i've never tested the lojack system since my car has never been jacked so i dont know if it's worth the money or not. i don't have lojack on my tsx and will not install it for any future autos. personally dont feel like it added any value for me, i felt like i would've been better off with one of those $800-1k alarms that has prox warning and pages you if your alarm goes off...then i'll run out to my car and see some that had left a ding mark on my car getting out of his

Thanks for all of your replies. I'm not getting it.

Now, I'm trying to decide whether or not to get wheel locks.

go for it. They may or may not help. I had nice wheels on all of my Hondas without wheel locks and nobody ever bothered the car. But, for a few extra bucks, you get a little bit more piece of mind.

If your dealer won't throw them in for nothing, hondaacuraworld.com has them for $35.00, no taxes and only 3.95 for shipping and handling:

I got LoJack in my Explorer for $500 installed. Personally... if someone stole my car I'm not sure I'd want it back.

Plus the rebate on the auto insurance is like 5-10% on your COMPREHENSIVE COVERAGE... which is a small part compared to your LIABILITY or COLLISION. In all I probably saved about $50/year or something (if that).

My neighbor's got loJACK, but it does JACKshit. cost them 800 and they had to wait 3 weeks before they could install the system. AAA doesn't give any discount for the system. And i agree with crazy tree.... if someone jacked my car, i wouldn't really want it back. Companies such as AAA reinburse you for your stolen car. My dealer asked me if i wanted lojack, and i said "no and i will not change my mind"

CORRECTION: MY ACTUAL SAVINGS WAS $12.80 PER YEAR WITH LOJACK.

Thanks for all of your advice. I decided not to order the lo-jack.
