Jacked by a snowplow.....

This is what happens when a DOT truck decides to not fully retract the side-mounted snow plow and drives down the freeway.

One second Im chilling in a turning lane (stopped in traffic) sipping coffee and happy as clam on my way to the daily worker...the next Im showered with glass. The dipwad managed to take out a few more cars before he sped away. I had to chase him down and force him to pull over. He said he didnt even realize he hit something. Uh huh.

Got some nice B and C pillar damage plus the two doors. Took it to Rallye Auto Body which is assocaiated with Rallye Acura...so Im guessing they painted more than a few NBP cars and know TSXs pretty well. They seem like a top notch shop.

But can someone PLEASE relieve my fears that Im going to get my baby back and its gonna be a two tone black rattle trap? Even though in the picture she's terribly dirty (NY weather has been god awful) and its got a bike rack on it (Whispbar...highly reccomended as it has a very "factory" look) Im neurotic about the car.

Yeah...filed the report, fully covered. No worries there. And the shop said they will check frame alignment, use Acura parts, do all the welding and use Spies paint which is a good product.

But Im still worried about how the finished product will turn out.

Hopefully your insurance is not needed to fix this. The driver of the plow basically did a hit and run. Did the other victims chase him down? Only problem is all the same accident and the drivers insurance may not be enought to cover all cars.

Nah, everything is covered. When I called it in to insurance, they said right on the phone "this is not your fault and we will cover everything." So Im good.

I just want my car back looking and feeling like it did before.

It will, thats why auto body repair costs so much.

They will also most likely detail the car so it should look perfect

as said other guy's insurance should be covering it (yours might have to do so for now, then they will recover from the other insurance)

and you are talking like about a New York Department of Transportation truck swiped you; was it a bigger truck like one that plows the highways (especially btw you make it sound it was a multi-piece plow)
about him feeling it, maybe not because it is a bigger truck, but then again he might have been sleep-deprived (which a fully alert person would have)(long-shifts)(or drunk if he is not a good employee )

Yup...the big ass DOT trucks, with the front plow, side plow, salt spreader, etc. The guy AND his super even ADMITTED that the thing is a PITA to drive and they HAVE TO lower the side plow so they can see. The guy just forgot to raise it.

and i bet the steering is loose too, so the steering wheels moves back and forth a couple of inches, before the actual wheels/tires even start to turn (ie: driving the truck is VERY vague, where your car would be very responsive)

anyways, as far as your car, a good chance it will get new doors since the windows frames are so bent up, not too big of a deal really since they bolt on (and don't forget to tell them you want NEW door hinges, as the current one's bushing's have probably been oblonged from the impact; basically you will get a saggy door [yes you could adjust them to compensate for it, but it is not the correct way to do it though], or one that squeaks and what not)
biggest thing i would worry is that C-pillar; and the B-pillar which is hard to tell if it was actually damaged (doors are obviously, but i am talking about underlying damage on the pillar itself)

also i have not seen this mention yet YEAR of the TSX?

just be aware they might be USED acura parts; but personally rather have used OEM, then some of the aftermarket crap out there

never heard of Spies paint, but i know PPG is one of the higher end paints, so maybe see if they are willing to use that instead (and some use PPG almost exclusively, so not excessively priced, within reason though)

with getting the B pillar also

as far as cost to fix the TSX, it will easily be more then $5k, if not easily approaching $8-9k or more (especially since panels have to be cut out, and welded in), i can tell you that much (part of the reason for asking the year of the car itself)

you probably might get it back and it would be perfect , but depending on how bad(cost wise) they might just total the car out. that quarter panel is expensive and then gotta replace the doors, also that b-pillar and then all the glass.

doors you can probably get used, even in the correct color NBP too (with all the glass included)

as kinda said issue is the welding and getting the pillars fixed, is where most of the repair bill will be going

Ill definitely be getting used doors, which will be OEM so Im ok with that. They are gonna have to weld in a new B pillar becuase its damaged and of course, the rear quarter. Its actually a lot of work, so we will see what they wanna do. I think the adjuster is gonna look at it tomorrow.

Im torn, I LOVE the 1st gen TSX and want my baby back, but if it is totalled (which I doubt) I wont cry too much, becuase Ill be able to then get into a new TSX Sport Wagon.

You can also ask for damages of loss of value due to accident vs the way the car was.

you mean deprecation value?

only works the best when the car has been in no previous accidents (so they might still be willing to, IDk)

I'll adopt my usual wet blanket role..... They're NEVER the same after an accident. Good excuse to get a new car though.

Update on this...got the car back yesterday...Rallye Collision here on Long Island did the work and it came out great. Body work is good and the paint is nice and smooth. I gotta go back to get the chrome trim aligned a bit better, but given the had to take the whole driver side of the car apart, inside and out, I cant complain.
