You have more patience than I....I had my fun at 604 miles. I just happened to be on a 5 mile long bridge (no cops!) and blew it open....

Failing that, yeah go ahead red line it (only after fully warmed up)

BTW might get even more opinions.

Do whatever you like. Just be ready to accept the consequences.

I am of the opinion that after the first couple of hundred miles engine break in is complete. The internal tolerances of the modern day engine are so fine that an extened break is unnecessary. IMHO, your milage may vary yadda yadda.

I waited until 1000 miles until I hit redline, not that that is correct or anything. I just wanted to be sure.....

But at the same time is it going to kill him to wait another 400 miles

The peace and mind is worth it IMO. Then again 618 miles > 1000 km so I think its safe to let it rip, at least according to the User Manual.

600 miles, isn't that more than enough for modern engines?

I'd venture to guess that no one has ever opened up a 10 year old Honda engine with 200K miles on it and said:
"now if only that guy broke it in properly this little extra wear would not be here" :whocares:

How have you been driving it so far. Breaking-in the engine doesn't mean keeping it under 3000 RPM until 1K. It means slowly, in measured steps, taking it higher and higher in the rev range. If you've covered 600 miles and never had it above 3000 RPM then I certainly wouldn't wind it up to red line all of a sudden.

That's basically what I did with mine. I drove it pretty easy for the first 600 miles and then gradually started pushing more and more. I noticed the first couple of times I took it to redline (between 900-1000 miles) it was almost rough feeling like it didn't want to go there. But after that it was (and still is) as smooth as honey. I probably drive my car a lot easier than some do because I'm planning on keeping it for a while but I still like to take it to or near redline at least once a day, not for any mechanical reason but just as a general philosophy of life.

My TSX has 580 miles on it, but it's at the dealer getting the I-VES installed today (I saw them working on it, very scary). So I has a white TSX loaner. Decided to see what it can do (it had over 1000 miles, so I guess it's broken in). FUN!!

My new 6MT hit 600 miles today. I took a road trip to make the 600 go by fast. I hit 125mph on curves, and it felt gooood!
