Plastic Bug Deflector

Sorry if this has been covered but I can't find mention of this anywhere.

Is there a plastic bug deflector similar to this one sold for the TSX?

Acura Canada's acessory page lists a Hood Protector for $163.00 but there's no picture or description of what it is.

My hood is getting killed and I'm not that crazy about a clear bra since dirt seems to get trapped at the edges which would be more visible with dark blue paint.

Domn, it exists for the TSX, I've seen one TSX in the neighbor with it.

IMO, it looks like :shit:, but also I think it will be damaging for your paint in the long-term, since larger dirt, pebbles etc, can stay trapped between the guard and the painted surface, and leave scratches.

The final result may be worst than with the clear bra if your start getting a bunch of scratches.

Anyway, I had a clear bra on my black Accord, and the small line of dirt you're talking about wasn't there if I cleaned it well.

Given the choice between the hood deflector and the clear bra, I'd (I chose) choose the clear bra in a heartbeat.

Clutch, sorry but I can't stand the full leather bra look.

Some good points sauce.

How about a leather hood cover which is what I think that $163.00 item on Acura Canada's web page is. Their easily removable so the paint underneath can be cleaned. Only downside is the paint beneath will eventually change to a different color than the rest of the car?

Not too fond of this either, as it can happen that dust and particles find their way below and scratch the paint as well.

Sauce check out this thread.

This post from R'US caught my attention

hey kegger...you got any pics of your TSX with the clear bra? I only had a small piece put on mine to see how it looks..but I ended up not getting it cause I allready got chips on my hood and the bra magnified those chips... Your installer didn't mention it won't stretch over your entire bumper? That was the first thing my installer mentioned to me. But for my next car, I'm going look to get one installed before any rock chips get on it
I'm in the same situation, I already have rock chips so they may be magnified. I'm thinking leather hood bra may be the way here.

Check out the response.

If you're going the leather bra way, you better be sure your bra is real tight all the time, because I'm convinced that if it is not the case you'll be screaming when you see all the scratches when you take the bra off.

I say wait the 4-5 years then repaint the hood (for around $400-500). If you insist on getting a bra (you girl), then the clear one looks best.

By that time the rest of the car will appear faded.

I'm only getting the hood part of the bra, which is more masculine

I'm just not sold on these clear bra's.

I just repainted the hood on wifeys '98 Civic, also a dark colour, and it matches perfectly.

I've always been told that you will never get the same result in terms of quality when repainting your car. Factory paint is just bonded and cured better? I've always been reluctant to paint a car.

I agree on the bonded part, but you can definately get a better paint job, more coats, better clear protection, etc. I had a '96 hatch that was painted Silverstone Metallic, with one extra coat of clear that car was near bullet proof....

Every time I try to post I get called away for work...

Well I have the NHBP and have heard about the front bumper and hood chipping. My previous car had the same problem and I just kept the bra on year round, periodically waxing the paint underneath the bra, but I'm not fond of the Acura OEM bra. I'm not sold on the clear bra anymore either after reading posts about lines showing on the NHBP and bubbling when the bra is chipped, it looks great on the CG though, but not for the darker colors. I haven't seen the hood part of the bra offered here in the US, got any pics or links?

You should look into XPEL
http://www.autosupermart.com/shop/br...ml?id=dz4foITS

I hear really good things about them. A friend of mine is a professional installer for XPEL films.
