Interior Illumination from 08 accord into TSX??

Does anyone know if this will work on the tsx? Not sure if the connectors are the same. It is inexpensive and looks easy to install if everything lines up.

I'm pretty sure we don't have the vehicle harness to power this, but you should be able to tap the fuse box and mod it to work.

Specifically, Step 20 where it plugs into the back of the Turn Signal/Headlamp switch.

Actually, since the harness is included in the kit, it might work. It looks like all you're doing in step 20 is disconnecting the harness for the lamp switch stalk and routing it through the ambient light harness.

Anyone taken apart their steering column lately and can verify that the lamp switch stalk is connected via a disconnecting harness?

I think it's cheap enough that you could always buy it to try it out. If it really doesn't work, then sell it on ebay. Honda show's MSRP of the kit at $109. Sell it on ebay for $50. Not a big deal. But then again, it's not my money.

That's definitely the question of the moment. Knowing Honda, they've gone and changed all the connectors again to frustrate us.

I haven't played around enough in the new Accords yet to be able to recall off the top of my head what their switchgear looks like in the cabin, but if we have the same stalk, do you think it would be safe to assume that the connector will be the same as well?

I've seen them rewire similar looking switches too. I'm trying to get a pin out of ours b/c I don't think I can on the new Accord. On a 20 Pin connector, 20 opportunities to be different.

Okay, i might have some bad news... looks like according to AllData, ours, in the same location is a 13pin connector. Would be helpful if someone like CCColtsicehockey, having his car torn apart could confirm.

Yeah, read my comment above. The 20 pin plug on the Accord kit obviously won't fit on our 13 pin plug. CCC hasn't responded.

Looking at that, I'm gonna say it's not a direct plug in modification and that you would need to do some custom wiring to make it work. If you're going to do that, you might as well go the custom route.

thanks for everyone's assistance looks like this would be a lost cause to purchase. Unless someone knows a way to swap the connector.

spoiledkari,

That pic you posted of the floor ambient, is that in your car? I like that A LOT. I'm not into mod-ing and would have no idea how to do it but is it difficult? It'd be cool to have that ambient on the floor to match the other one...

Yep, that's my car. I bought single LED's from superbrightleds.com and hard wire them to the heated seat switches. When I turn on my headlights, the footwell lights come on. Whole mod only cost me about $10 and an hour of work.

OK, my turn:

Similar to what SpoiledKari did, with the following differences:

Got mine from autolumination, one for each footwell.
Ground, lapped and polished the lenses flat for a wide, even, and ring and spot-free glow.
Used an Add-a-circuit to the ACC fuse, using a 3A fuse.
LEDs panel mounted to either side of the center tunnel, so the LEDs are firing sideways, towards the doors.

I like that you put them on the side instead of aiming downward. I never would have thought to do that. Even though I ground down the end of the LED's, I still get a "spotlight" effect when I make the switch to the all weather mats for the winter. I guess it's because those mats are kinda shiny and the light is being reflected off of it instead of being absorbed like with the carpeted mats.
You're just a wealth of useful information, DLTSX6MT!

For what it's worth, I have the install instructions (825kb .pdf) for the factory Euro Accord (our TSX) Footwell Lighting kit. A quick relook at it shows that it connects to a unused block in the footwell fuse block. No separate on/off switch, so I'm guessing whatever controls it (parking lights?) already provides power to that socket on the fuse block, and you just need to plug the lights in (plus a small control module) to have them active.

When I checked in May06, it was about 150 Euro's from European dealers.

I wish someone would give this mod (buying the factory illumination kit) a shot. I'm too chicken to mess with wiring, and I know that $10 and some soldering would get the same effect. However, the OEM kit probably has some more uniform led lighting built into it. I could be wrong though. I'd have to see it in person I guess. Definitely not worth $80 though!
