Insurance Quotes

from diff forum just an FYI..

this is just for ppl to know how crazy insurance is for teenagers

so i was going to be selling my car and pick up an old beater BUT.. i called insurance and i received these quotes with my name under them...

STATE FARM YEARLY + full coverage 250$ collision deductible
04 tsx 2213 <-- my current Car
01 integra type r 2850
99 gsr 2646
00 si 2303
02 rsx type s 3000 <-- bros car
00 prelude 2600 <-- sis car

these are quotes with discounts
-good student discount
-steer clear package
-multicar
-clean record

its stuipd how the newest car is the least expensive.. even though it depends on the theft rate and other factors that go into insurance quotings... and of course my AGE : 17

23 here and at first I got quoted for $700 for 6 months from Geico and Esurance. Then I remembered my mom is already with Esurance so added the car and myself to her policy and paying $350 for 6 months. Not too bad...

Try calling different insurance agencys, I found there's sometimes a lot of difference in price. Just make sure you compare the exact same coverage.

in my experiences, state farm has the highest rates when i was doing some research but geico and progressive are usually pretty good.

I have state farm, but they took car of my car after the tornado down here...around $20k in damages, too

I have good student (although when I get my MBA this saturday, that will conclude my educational career) and I don't get in accidents or speeding tickets... don't remember what it costs, off the top of my head, though, but it is low...I think ~$1000 a year or so...perhaps slightly less

Where do all of you guys live? That can make a huge difference in the insurance prices. Living near big cities usually guarantees substantially higher insurance rates.

29, unmarried in St. Louis, MO. No accidents or tickets, $500 collision and $500 comprehensive costs me right at $100/mo. My insurance went down like $10 every 6 months (that's all!) when I went from my RSX to the TSX. I expected a bigger drop.

I live in NYC. My insurance is way too high!!!!! $200+ a month and $600 deductible. I'm going to start looking for a cheaper quote. And I have a clean record and multi-car discount.

How to save money on car insurance:
  • Shop around. Rates vary a LOT between insurance companies for different people. The cheapest insco for one person may well be the most expensive for another. In fact, the cheapest insco for YOU one year may well be the most expensive for you next year (this just happened to me when I got the TSX. Switched from Geico which had been the cheapest by $200 a year to Unitrin and saved almost $1k a year!) Look at a LOT of quotes. If you find a company you've never heard of, check their A.M. Best rating (make sure they have an A or A+) to make sure they're a real insurance company, as there are a lot of legitimate companies you probably haven't heard of but also a lot of rip-offs.
  • If you're buying a beater, you almost certainly don't need collision and comprehensive coverage. Just get liability coverage and insure yourself against the possibility of a collision loss (i.e. if you destroy the beater, just go buy another one, they are cheap). It would have cost me $1400 a year to get comp&coll on my $500 Geo
  • Though this may sound dishonest, DO NOT tell insurance company sales reps about claims or tickets you may have gotten in the past. They will look up your history anyway when you tell them you're ready to buy (which you should even if you are still shopping around as this is the only way to get an accurate quote), so they will know about anything you don't tell them about. But if you make a mistake and tell them about something that didn't happen (or happened too long ago to matter), they will NOT forget about it when it doesn't show up on the motor vehicle report, they'll just assume it didn't get reported somehow.

This is not going to be true for everyone. I, for instance, pay $500 a year less than the Esurance quote I just got. SHOP AROUND at as many different companies as possible. Here's a very incomplete list off the top of my head:

Amica
Allstate
State Farm
Geico
Unitrin
Liberty Mutual
AIG
Esurance
Progressive
Erie Insurance
