Instructions for Steering wheel removal

I recently purchased the 2006 OEM Steering Wheel ( outer leather wheel ).

I like it that its thicker and has a sports grip at 10 and 2.

Does anyone have DIY for steering wheel removal? Personally dont want to go to the stealership for this, but I'm not sure if I have all the right tools + airbag = tricky.

Thanks in advance ( did a search , unable to find )

Thanks for the link.

Now off the store to pickup 1) Steering wheel puller and 2) 2 torx T30 torx screws.

Both relatively cheap and can be picked up at schucks or napa auto stores

Is the 2006 steering wheel actually thicker than the 04/05 or just the palm swell section?

Thanks, I was considering the other option below. Replacing it with the 06 version might be an alternate option.

I guess I'm no longer the only one.....

Just a tip for those of you looking to do this, becareful not to strip the torx bolts like I did

Other than that it should take no longer than an hour or so, and you don't even need a steering wheel puller, just make sure you wiggle the wheel a bit after you have the large center bolt off, and before you pull on it (if you don't wiggle it before you pull, you'll lock it and end up needing a steering wheel puller).

but it's missing this part...which I think is one of the finest touch of the whole steering wheel...

and the airbag shape on the 04-05 looks more rugged...better IMHO

XenonHID- or SupraKEN

I assume you guys are using 2004 & 2005 airbag in the 06-07 steering wheel?

I got an 06 and got broken into and they rip off my driver airbag. While looking for a replacement I found an 04 airbag but question fitment. Honda Parts number are different but found this post and it look like it fit.

Any chances you guys can supply me the picture of the connector and wires of yours airbag or whoever got a 04 & 05??

I'm more than ready to upgrade my '04 wheel to the thicker '06+ wheel. I getting REALLY tired of the sharp edge digging into my hands. It's just too damn small (thickness) and my hands are crying out for a thicker wheel. A question for those who have had both. Is it worth the upgrade? Any help on where to buy it and for how much $$$'s? I can pick one up local for $396.00. Any deals out there??

JDM airbag will not be compatable with our car. 03-04 USDM Honda Accord Coupe airbag will, but if you insist of having the JDM airbag without the airbag functionaing CCColtsicehochey might sell you his

I gotta say, I have an 07 SSM 5AT as a loaner right now and I am LOVING the steering wheel. This is a mod I am now seriously considering. It just feels so much better than the 04/05 wheel; the 10/2 sportgrips are fantastic.

Where's the best place to get the Torx T30 screws?
So can I do the install without getting a steering wheel puller?

TIA

^^

Hey Kenny, I got the steering wheel puller from schucks auto, I'm not sure about wiggling it or what ever but I HAD to use it to remove my steering wheel.

The 2 Torx screws I ended up finding it online. I got it at DELRAYACURA.com

Its at their Online parts store.

Part number 90134-S6A-A80.

I ended up giving my steering wheel puller to CJAMS cause I didnt have need for it after I installed the 06 steering wheel and I figured his SHOP might use more than I did.

Thanks for the info man. I ended up finding out that I can get the steering wheel puller at the Autozone as a loaner tool.

When I do a search on that part # I get a hex bolt as the description. Is that the right one?

Nevermind Xenonhid.

I got the parts I needed today. Picked up a Steering wheel puller at Autozone as a loaner tool. Then I went by the local Honda dealer and got those 2 T30 Torx screws. I got lucky, I guess there is a recall on some Honda air bags so they had a bunch of those screws around. The parts guy just gave them to me for free. Finally I hit Home Depot and got a Torx T30 Socket that will fit on my ratchet. Hopefully I can do the install this weekend!

The 06+ steering wheel is slightly thicker. I measured the circumference of both of them. 06+ steering wheel FTW

thread revival alert! Can you use the steering wheel controls from the 05 steering wheel? i.e. if I bought one without the silver and control area, would it still work?

Wiring question

Couple of questions...

Do the buttons light up? Is that all prewired from the column harness?

Does anyone know if the colum harness is prewired for Navi?

If you bought just the 06 + steering wheel, all you have to do is just swap out the steering wheel control buttons onto the new one. Its not stuck together or anything.
