Installation Of Mugen Window Visors DIY

I haven't seen this posted and doing this install blind like I did can be a bit of a challenge in areas so I decided to post a DIY up here for those who want to do this mod.

Installing The Mugen Visor Set For The TSX

1). Using a flat head screw driver, insert between weather striping and chrome trim and pull down. Then use your hands and pull striping down.

1a. Using the 3M cleaner supplied whipe down the chrome trim and the b-pillars.

2). Do not pull out the corners, (they are hard to get back in and you don't need to).

2a. On the front window pull down until you are about 2.5" - 2.75" from the mirror.

2b. On the back of the front window pull down until you are about 3" from the b-pillar.

2c. On the back window pull down until you are about 2.25" - 2.5" from the b-pillar.

2d. On the back window pull down until you are about 2.25" - 2.5" from the back little window.

Front Window:

Back Window:

Size: 38.8 KB

3). Place the clips onto the visors then peel back the tape as shown in the images:

Size: 88.2 KB

4). Insert clips so the clamp to the chrome trim and are flat in the window track then pull back tape as you apply the visor to the trim, be sure to observe the 2mm spacing to the top of the chrome and 3mm space between the start of the back visor and the end of the front visor on the b-pillar.

5). There is a groove on the outside of the track that is there to clamp onto the weather stripping (see image), lift and push the weather striping onto this groove so it locks in place. (you will feel it lock in).

Groove:

Lifting And Tucking:

6). If some of the top wedged striping gets stuck, tuck it with your thumb then pull towards the outside of the car with your fingers and it will snap into place.

Size: 25.0 KB

7). When you are done the striping on the inside of the car should be flush (see image).

Lookin' good. Mine doesn't look as good as yours because I didn't have the original double sided tape. So had to compromise with new 3m tape which is thicker and larger.

Good visors also deflect wind away from the car instead of into it with the windows partially open.

no extra road noise. maybe your dads aren't the same design and if they are in channel like Mugens you need to get the weather stripping back in just like stock or you'll have leaks which aren't always water leaks, but wind leaks and that leads to more noise

i've got the rainguards my dealer installed and those increase road noise like crazy, but that might also be because they messed up my seals while installing.. which they are being assholes about fixing..

ruffell - let me know man, it's gonna look hot

msmching - the aspec kit makes all the difference in the world for looks, so does the euro r or the mugen kit if you can afford them. Thanks for the praise though lol

I could really have used this DIY back in October when I put mine in. I figured it out, but without any help from the OMG JDM instructions. Nice write-up.

have you tested the noise at highway speeds to see if there is any increase? on the king motorsports page, it says that the ventilated visors are supposed to REDUCE wind noise. this is probably just referring to wind noise when the windows are cracked open, and not shut.

also, i think these would look better with the blacked out window trim as opposed to the chrome, as it blocks some of the chrome

i will let you all know. they weren't able to get me tanabes any time soon, so i went with the tein basics. and they couldn't get ingall rear camber kits for 3 weeks, so i went with the SPC rear kit.

i hope they come in soon! i'd love to get them on next saturday or something.

tanabe tends to have long wait. i guess its pretty rare compared to tein. i was lucky and got it in a week.

yeah Tein is deffinately more mainstreamed than Tanabe but both are worthy suspensions. Either way it'll turn out great. Keep us informed

Hey guys. I was trying to install my visors today but I ran into trouble. How does the weather strip come off. I try to pull it so hard and it doesnt even show any signs of releasing. =/

take a flathead screw driver and wedge it between the chrome trim and the stripping then horizontally pull down with a bit of pressure. Put one hand on the handle and one on the driver shaft. Should come right out, it will be hard, but its rubber, hard to break it. Just don't poke a hole in it =)

Thanks clee. I had to literally pull down with all my might. I used the 3M cleaner and it looks like it stained part of my B pillar. Maybe it will come off eventually. My thoughts....it's awesome. I don't hear anymore of that high speed wind resonance.

yeah, when they have never been removed they are in there pretty good lol. To get the stains off of the chrome use rubbing alcohol and rub it on pretty good with a clean terry cloth. Then after that buff it with another terry cloth and the stains will come right out. All those stains are is excess grease. Hard to believe they are really that dirty eh? lol

It's road grime more or less than greesy hands. Plus excess wax, acid rain, yadda yadda

Got inspired–and installed my mugen visors on this PM. Thanks, Clee for the DIY above! I would make 2 suggestions on removing the rubber trim. I used a curved 'rivet-popper' with the end wrapped in electrical tape. Reversing the head and pulling downagainst the rubber. I also recommend using pliers with a microfiber towel, to help when pulling-off the rubber trim. Not difficult at all. Works very good driving around town. Highway speeds (80+) were fine too, but, with the DS rear window open about 4-5 inches, to cut down on some wind turbulence. Nice looking, to boot.

The OE none Mugen visors fit differently? I didn't have to pull the rubber seal down. The clips tucked under the chrome trim piece. Is this correct?
