I drove my car today!

My story is a long one, but nonetheless after two months of waiting I will have my TSX on Friday. I stopped by the dealer today to see it for the first time and I wasn't disappointed. I was eager to see if it would make clunky sounds, or if there would be any rattles, or to see what would happen when the bass is turned up. Here's what I found:

1. This car is tits (Larch, you know what I mean)

2. No rattles

3. No clunk noises

4. CG/quartz is incredible

5. There IS a vibration around the driver's side (probably passenger too) door locks when the bass is at ridiculous levels. I found that when I pushed up against the lock at its base it stopped the noise. I don't care though, the music was so loud I could hardly hear the buzz.

6. I have a minor imperfection in my paint on the rear driver side door at the base of the window. It looks like some sort of wave pattern but it's tough to describe. The rep says it can be buffed out no problem. We'll see.

7. Power seats are fine (no skipping).

It's funny to know exactly what to look for after being on this site (and others) for so long. To all those people worrying about their potential problems: chill out! You do yourself no good worrying about something you can't control, and chances are everything will be ok anyway.

Thanks Ice, I'll write one after I've had a chance to really get into the car, probably next week.

Can we say congrats yet? Huh, can we?

Before we get to that thing up there: Funny thing. I consider myself quite a bit of an anal analytic type, but if I had a chance to preview my car, I would never get into these fine points, because I'd be too busy using every second just enjoying the car and getting to know it. I'd figure the microscope work can wait.....

About that vibration, and the rattles in general, which tend to happen mainly when the sound is turned up way high, this is something I've never understood. Just as you say, the music was so loud you could hardly hear the buzz. That's just it; since for the most part it doesn't happen except when it's turned up real loud, how does ANYONE ever hear it???

(No answer needed; I like being able to just keep pondering such paradoxes.)

Larch, your pondering paradoxes are legendary on this site. As for the analytical nature of my first introduction, I have been living vicariously through all of you guys and I feel as though I already know the car. I know the ins and outs and the trouble areas to look for. My approach is exactly backwards from what you describe: identify anything negative and then enjoy the rest. Cheers!

You know Larch, you'd be surprised at how you can hear the vibration rattles in the doors with the music turned up. Now I have my treble set to +4 and the Bass set to +1. With the windows down, I normally keep the volume at 28-30 with a CD playing. With the windows up, I hardly go over 20-22. I can hear slight vibration rattling in both doors on certain songs. However, if I do the little trick of rolling the windows down just a touch, it goes away. So I have been doing this.

However, maybe I have distinct hearing, but I can hear the rattling even when the music is so loud you'd think it would drown out all other sounds....

It's one of those things that you don't hear unless you are specifically listening for it. Therefor, I blame acura-tsx.com for my rattles!

Ignorance is bliss! err maybe not.

Well, GA is way farther from Chicago than VA. Wiz is still the king of road trips. But anyway, I'll be in Madison, Wisconsin in the fall for grad school which is only a couple hours north of Chicago. So starting September, it's on! Sorry my post was misleading.

Jason:
Wasn't it TORTURE to drive the car, knowing it was just a sneak preview?

I waited 7 weeks for mine--that was tough. But not as tough your next 3 days!

I went to the dealer, they had the car I wanted, I got it 3 days later after negotiating a bit. Jason, you are just teasing yourself man...now you have to wait 3 more days before you can take it home.

Wiz and Cap: I wouldn't have done that to myself if my car was going to be any longer than Thurs or Fri. I'm trying not think about it too much though, and I do feel better knowing that I have "met" the car and there are no problems. There are only 11 miles on it (seven when I got in) so I know it's not being abused by some a-hole test drive, and there aren't really any serious problems.

Also, it felt good. They were very respectful of me and weren't annoyed I stopped by. I appreciated that. I had a big ol' smile on my face when the guy pulled it around. An available salesman and I had a nice drive (he didn't know shit about the voice controls), and then we got back. He let me chill in the car for a while to play with the nav and test the bass (wow!), and then I gave them back the keys. I'll get the car in a few days. No worries, I'm diggin my Ford Focus rental car.

What did I miss that is causing all the waiting?

Also, you mentioned the power seats worked, I thought on the driver's seat was power?

Forgive me if I am wrong, I have a TLS, not a TSX.

I crashed the CL-S I was going to trade in nine days before my TSX finally arrived. The accident was 7/2. So my car has been sitting at the dealership for the last week and a half with no love. The CL-S will be ready by week's end.

There were some posts on the other side about the seat travel and how the power seat "skips" and doesn't adjust properly. I think it was something like that. Anyway, mine are fine.

And you are forgiven, despite the fact you drive a TLS.

Hey Jase, I think you missed what he meant about this.

I think he was just referring to your having said "power seats", i.e. the plural.

He's right -- there's only one power seat! (What WERE you thinking???)

I guess you were so entranced that you thought it has two.

Well he said "on the driver's seat is power." If he had said "only" instead of "on," I would have gotten it.

Well, now I've done it. I went and test drove my car thinking my CL would be ready. This sucks. I just off the phone with the shop and they're saying next week, don't know when. The wait continues!! :'(
