I did 40.1 MPG highway on BONE STOCK TSX 08, take that lexus/infinitis and hybrids.
this is how it was achieved.
BONE STOCK auto tsx 08
Shell gasoline premium 93 octane ( im in VA so we have that here i think some states like cali don't)
non synthetic oil just regular i bought the car used so its whatever honda dealership had put in. i am about 70% oil life on the dash thing
(** i will be going full synthetic mobile 1 like on my WRX previously very soon when it hits 50% oil life)
NO aftermarket air filter (k&n) or CAI*** stock box with paper filter purolator from advance auto
air pressures at cold are 34front 32 rear
DURING driving, tires psi was roughly 40 front 37 rear
no A/C or heat
no windows down
Radio was On XM sat whole time
OFF all lights were off
ON Cruise Control was on
Outside temp was high 50's to mid 60's
avg anywhere from high 60's to 75 mph whole time~
I am very VERY PLEASED
so anyone else do any better MPG or have gotten better?
advice, opinions, comments, ideasssssss appreciated
AND FINALLY!!

Your fuel average isn't as high as the display says it is. Check it when you fill up. If your car is as accurate as mine is, you averaged around 38.8 for that second pic. I'd also be interested in knowing what roads you were on. If you were going downhill, then those numbers aren't impressive at all. If you were going uphill, they're pretty darn good. The wind also has a pretty large affect on your MPG. I've averaged up to 20% better mileage just because of a change in the wind direction before.

in response to upper guy lots of mountains yes many uphills down hills too but still.
rt 66 and interstate 81 lots of up and downs mountain roads in fact all mountains~ all in virginia~
this was coming back from a trip Virginia Tech to Northern Virginia if anyone on this forums knows that area of western virginia they can vouch for the mountainous roads. and even so 38.8 is still freaking awesome

I certainly can't argue that you got great mileage. Wish I could do that down here in Louisiana. Flattest roads around so mileage is pretty consistant for most days. You also have to have the AC compressor on all the time. Stinks for mileage, but I average about 32ish on the interstate during the summer. Down to 29 with stinky winter fuel.

I live in CA and the highest fuel octane we get is 91. nevertheless I hit 36-37 MPG wth my car. I need to try it with octane booster and higher pressure in the tires

I didn't do better than 40, but I got 35 mpg in Jan 2008. No cruise control, had the heat on, snow tires on, completely stock '04 TSX. The drive was from NJ to DC, with some traffic on Rt. 95 and about 25 minutes of driving in the city. Pretty damn good if you ask me. Not going above 75 mph and avoiding slowing down and speeding up as much as possible really helps your mileage, so that's what I did the entire way. If it hadn't been for that half hour or so of driving in the city, my mpg would likely have been even higher.
And yes, make sure you do the calculation by hand, as the computer is always a little bit off.

In the loaner TSX's I've driven, my highway average was 36 to 38 mpg. This is with Oregon's crappy 10% ethanol.

Oliver!!!
40.1 MPG should be 5.87 L/100km. And no, I didn't do the math by hand. I googled a converter. FTW!!!
And to the OP, that's some pretty great mileage! I couldn't even get that going from SC back to Florida. All interstate, and it was pretty cool out, so I wasn't using the climate control. I did have the sunroof open for about half the trip though. It was just so nice out, I couldn't help it. I did make it from Columbia to Orlando without stopping for gas though.

You actually probably did 37-38 mpg although the readout shows 40.1, but good job nonetheless.
Let us know what you got on the full tank.
I've gotten as high as 38 mpg on the MID on a full tank and did the math and it came out to ~36 mpg.

Oh I should add that my MPG were based upon what the pump said and NOT the MID
#19
I don't know how you guys can get such good mileage. Just recently I started driving like a normal person and I'm only getting 23 mpg and it's mostly highway driving. There's no way in hell I can get to mid 30s. My max was 31 but that was 2 years ago.

Just thought you guys would like to know that Shell Premium gas does NOT contain Ethanol. Only their Regular product does. Same with the Mid Grade, no ethanol. I have picked up considerably better gas mileage with Shell products instead of cheap gas.

Oliver!!!
Okay, that explains it. I gotta find a shell station. Unfortunately, they're few and far between around here any more. I noticed a big difference in my last car between brands that used E10 and brands that didn't. I just took it for granted that everybody was using E10 anymore.

I thought everyone was putting in E10 also. I didn't realize Shell wasn't. Good, that's what I've been using for a couple years now. Shell also has a new thing with nitrogen in the gas. Not sure it really does anything, it's probably more marketing than anything.

Nice. My best ('04 6mt, calculated by the pump as I don't even have the MID option) was 37.something from Pittsburgh to the Outer Banks last year (and through the same mountainous terrain you were in). Probably would have been better were it not for DC and it's craptastic traffic.
The TSX is no slouch in the fuel economy department. You just need to be reasonable with the gas pedal. This was much easier on the way to my vacation (nice and relaxed, in no real rush) than on the way back (god dammit, I have to go work tomorrow, get the shit out of my way!!!!).

Still ... 37 is about what my gf's Toyo Echo is getting in 70% city driving. Don't hesitate to go outside and do a "happy dance."
EDIT: Oh ... today's the 1 yr anniversary of my tracking my mileage.

Is 133 miles the number of miles that the average fuel consumption was based on? If so, I don't think 133 miles in enough of a sample size for that average to have converged to its real parameter.
Just a thought.

Haha, Danny, I've gotten 39MPG or 40MPG just going down the freeway for 30 miles. Easy, just drive at 60MPH, and don't use gas on the uphills.
My fill-ups are usually at about 250 - 350 miles. I just filled up at 391 miles, though.
The variation in MPG between the MID and actual gallons per miles driven is from 5% to 20%. I have to spend more time in Excel to compare the size of the fill-up with the variance. Might correlate, might not.

Don't know about EPA, but Consumer Reports reports their own test review mileage: city, highway, overall, and 150 mile road trip. I generally think that a measurement where 5 gallons or more are consumed is roughly reliable. A 1 gallon trip, noooooo. A full tank (representing several days use, or combined daily weekday and typical weekend), best.

I don't trust the MID at all...which is why I do my MPG by hand!
I went from San Diego to Vegas the other day and got nearly 600 miles to the tank. 600/15=40. Nearly 40 real miles per gallon is...amazing! Not to mention that's with I/H/E and reflash.

My mid averages just under 2 mpg off over about 24 months of monitoring, so the tank is best. My tops was around 37 mpg (actual) Seattle to Portland (once I got on the highway). On the highway, I think the TSX is one of the best if not the best when you balance out the combination of MPG, comfort, ride, and the speed you can travel (I averaged 70 on the run above). You have to get an econo-box or small hybrid to do better (except maybe a Camary Hybrid, but it's close).

I drove a Civic Hybrid for 4 years, and I've been in a Prius. Yes, those two can out-do a TSX in mileage, but they're not comparable cars in terms of comfort and luxury. I know the Prius > Civic when it comes to that, but I got to the point where I couldn't spend 2 hrs a day in a Civic any more. I can spend all day in my TSX and be happy.

And to add- the TSX gives you a bit more choice. You can get stellar get gas mileage on 1 tank, and decide to drive like a bat outta hell on the next.
With the economy hybrids, you're stuck with only 1 personality.

As far as I understand for better MPG the car should be kept in low RPM. The problem is that I've just got the car and don't know much about it and I want to ask if it is normal to drive a TSX on a fifth gear at 40mph? The RPM at this speed and gear is slightly above 2000. This rpm was kinda fine with my previous car (1.6 Opel Astra).
