At this rate, when I do have kids and I start to teach them how to drive, are there going to be any manuals left. They are already hard to find in a lot as is.

Personally I drive a manual because I feel a part of the actually driving experience that way. In an automatic the car does all the work, which is nice for most people, but I like to be part of the action. No transmission in the world would make me want to give up my clutch.

I think with stick also some people get it and some dont. I tried teaching my sis-in-law how to drive stick and she just wasnt getting it. Maybe more pratice would have helped, but I think you need to have a certian amount of coordination to get it right.

Took me a bit to get it but I was learning on Land Rover and Audi manuals. The land Rover clutch you had to almost stand on to make it go in, and anyone who's driven a stick audi can understand how tricky it is for a beginner manual driver to figure out when that retarded clutch is gonna grab. IMO bit to much travel for a beginner. The car that really helped me get comfortable was a toyota tacoma with 250,000 miles on it. Looked like shit. Drove like a dream. Team Japan kicks ass.

Yeah anyway, if we can stop baggin' on each other....
I just visited today the California Fuel Cell Partnership and Toyota's got a demo vehicle there ($3-4 million mind you) that basically has no tranny in it. These are cars that use hydrogen fuel cells to generate an electric current to supply an electric motor. They are really neat in that fact and very very quite and smooth. But the main point I wanted to point out is it's an electrical motor and simply as you go higher, the motor just spins faster. No tranny.
My friend's, enjoy your manuals while you can because future holds to the possiblity of finding one to be very very rare. They are already the case in many vehicles (ie., Toyota 4Runner, no manual option available when back in 1990 half of the Runners on the lot where manual).

you'll be fine...
ya, if you access to a mt, practicing can do no harm before picking up your car.
if anything, you'd probably have to get used to the angles of the car (i.e. high rear end) more than the actual mechanics of driving a mt.

I stalled mine once a few months ago, I don't remember the details but I was suprised I did that because I had the car for over 20k miles at that point and hadn't had any mishaps up to that point. The TSX is a very easy(and fun) manual to drive.
