How Durable is 3M Tape?
How Durable is 3M Tape?
so, i got my m3 style deck spoiler from xenonspecialist and it just makes my car so sexy in my eyes. but i've encountered what could be a problem in the future. when the trunk gets hot (as it often does in hawaii), i notice the tape gets a little gummy and you can wiggle the spoiler ever so slightly. once the temperature drops and the trunk gets cool, the the gumminess goes away and the spoiler is rock hard - you can't budge it at all.
so my question for those of you who have the xenonspecialist spoiler - how durable is the 3m tape? i really don't want to have to take it off and reinstall in 6 months or something. can the constant heating/cooling affect the tape's adhesion strength?

From working in the vinyl sign business for a couple years I can tell that the adhesive will only get stronger as a result of the heat cycling. Stuff that's been on a car for a year or two is much, much more difficult to remove. I think the glue kind of bakes down or something. That product was specifically designed to do what you're using it for, I wouldn't be concerned.
^^^Agreed... I've also had that spoiler on for 3 years, and it's held up great --- not even a hint of it coming off. In NJ, we see 4 seasons, so we can get summers up to high 90s (maybe an occasional 100), and winters subzero. IMO, you don't have anything to worry about.
