Help! Small swirly scratches!
Hey everybody. New to the post and owning a TSX. Loving it. Took delivery just before Christmas.
Just before we started to wash it for the first time in the full sun, my dad noticed that the hood had small little swirly scratches that are only visible if you look really closely. I thought nothing of it and washed it and figured it come right out.
Since then, I've been back to the dealer a few times asking what gives. They pretty much are telling me that it's probably windblown dirt or the way i'm washing the car.
I don't think this is the case. My dad & I are convinced that this was the dealer's fault when they made the car ready.
Does anybody have any experience this? Any help is appreciated.
Ok, to answer both questions. Color= Carbon Grey Pearl. I realize that more stuff will show because of the dark color.
I usually wash my car with one of those car wash gloves and rise the hell out of them between washes.
The point is that these swirls where there and still are pretty much after i took delivery. Am I being to picky?

If the swirl marks are all over the car, then it's probably from washing. Even if you rinse the mit well, it can still get particles in it while your washing the car. I suggest using Meguiar's #80 or Klasse AIO to get out the swirling, then top with a coat of wax. Also check out autopia.org for more information.
Yeah, isn't that clear coat sealant on the paint supposed to eliminate those small scratches or whatever?
I'm just so disappointed! Any recommendations on what I can do to reduce them? Wax?
Thanks everybody.

Mequires NXT is supposted to fill in tiny swirl marks. Otherwise, you may need to polish it first, which should take the top layer (including the swirl marks) off and then wax it to put on a protective coat.

Follow slobeatz's advice and you should end up as good as you can.
i had that same problem and i have the same color car as you. what i used was the zaino products. you can actually use any type of synthetic wax. to get out the swirl marks, i had to wash my car with regualr car wash soap. then i claybared it to get off all the left over particles. then i washed it again with dish soap. after that, i applied 2 layers of the zaino synthetic wax. it took me almost all day to do it, but it worked good. also, to prevent the swirl marks again, make sure you rinse the car off before you wash it. and never make circular motions when washing or waxing the car.

Is this correct?
Very true! Anyone who says to wash a car with dish soap is a moron, no offense. It will strip your wax and dull the finish eventually. I'd advise you to wash, polish with Meguiar's #80 and top off with NXT wax. That should fix those swirls. Good luck to you.

Well, i'm still going to swing by the service dept, just to see what they say. At the very least, I'll see about their recommendation for cleaners and stuff to see if they are up to snuff like you guys

at :cop: I don't think it'll be closed, just a headsup that the next one will.
the point of using dish soap is to strip the wax. you want the surface as bare as possible so you can apply the layers of synthetic wax. thats why you use the clay bar to make it squeaky clean. i agree that the dish soap can dull your finish if you keep using it, but not if you use it just this one time to remove the swirl marks
To be clear, I wasn't
at the authority, it was for me.
Thanks for the suggestion.
I'm not comfortable stripping my wax on my fairly new car (only 6600 miles on it) because i'm not that experienced. What if i fark it up?
I appreciate all the input. Any other suggestions?

Alright everybody. Im seeing the dealer today. Wish me luck!
Dad & I are still convinced that swirls were caused by buffer because they appear to be beneath the surface of the clear coat.

:cop:Good Luck,
I don't think the swirls would be beneath the clear coat. If that is true then it really is a big problem because it means that the pain coat was applied incorrectly before the clear coat was put on. Swirls are usually just scratches in the surface of the clear coat which you can see when reflected light catches them. You can either a) fill them in using NXT or other similar product , or b) use a polish to "wear down" the surrounding area of the swirl and then put on a protective coat.
Thanks James
The swirls are definately beneath the clear coat and it's all over the car. It appears that they muffed up the buffing then applied the clearcoat.
I'll keep y'all posted.

Update! Update!
I went to see the Sales Manager who is also the #2 guy in the dealership. He saw the little swirls and said that is below the clearcoat.
So, he said to bring it in on Thursday for their paint specialist to take a look at it.
Now, let's see what happens on Thursday

Alright everyone, here is the update.
The guy that does the detailing and paint is a sub-contractor who shows up once a week. He does this work outside, so on a cloudy day, he would have missed these swirls.
Today was cloudy and ugly, so I decided not to get it fixed today and coordinate my return under full sun, so the swirls can be seen and fixed accordingly.
Btw, the dealership will cover the cost
