help with installing new cabin filter....@#%

ok...I'm following these instructions

http://www.vtec.net/articles/view-ar...icle_id=355466

but I can't seem to get the glove box open. I've been at step #3 for the past 15 mins. This should be that hard but I can't get that shit to move, budge or fucking anything. If I put any more pressure on it, I'm going to break something...

Any tips or ideas?

the TSX doesn't have those trim tabs. for step 3, move the glove box up a little, and push the "arm" on each side towards the center of the glove box to remove them.

do it for each side and the glovebox will drop down fully.

I don't see how that's going to work...you can't move the glove box much of any since they are on the hinges. Once you have one side popped, if I try to pop the other, the other side pops back in.

This is bullshit.

It's those damn stoppers that are giving me the issue...I can't get them popped out so the glove box can drop

IIRC you gotta get soemthing btwn them and the glovebox (a dime, a small screwdriver... aynthing). Also, I believe you have to just twist them and kinda jiggle them to get 'em out.

PITA the first time... easy as heck the next time.

Step 3 in those instructions seems wrong...maybe its just me.

Just did mine last w/e so the procedure is fresh in my mind. First of all take everything out of the glove box. Then push the little arm on the right side back until it pops free. It just kinda hooks on.

Then take a SMALL flathead screwdriver and pry out the tabs on either side of the inside of the glovebox. They should come out quite easily. After this is done the glovebox will rotate down and out of the way. Reach in with both hands use your index fingers to unclip the filter box, and slide it out.

When you replace the filter make sure you have the airflow going the correct way. Both the filter and its plastic cage are marked. The plastic box holding the filter clips back in very easily.

Then move the glovebox up until its about at the position where it would be if you opened it normally. Push the tabs on each side back into place and push them in until they snap in. Finally snap the arm on the right side into place by putting it on its hook and pulling it back towards you. Its plastic and could break so don't put too much force on it.

Hope this helps man, I can take some pics of what you need to do if you want!

See where I put the red arrow, you have to get a screwdriver under that tab and then it pops out real easy. Do that on both sides of the inside of the glovebox.

...and why were you trying to use instructions for an Accord to do the filter on a TSX?

I'd agree with you except that this is in the TSX owner's manual.

Anyway, glad you got it done, that's what counts.

I ordered mine from www.fleetfilter.com (WIX No. 24815). They run $9.74 ea. I ordered two and the total with shipping came to around $26. Their website says they are on back order right now. I wonder how much it would cost OTC at a Napa parts store.

You might also try www.fiter1.com. I'm reposting a post from a different thread:

FWIW, Wix part # is 24815 and its $12.66.

Hey, I know the OP solved his problem, but in the interest of accuracy let me give you some advice for next time.

In this picture,

If you put your finger on the OUTSIDE of the glovebox, just below the bottom of that red circle, and push IN towards the center of the glovebox, there is a hole and you can push those stopper tabs right in without having to pry it from the other side with a screwdriver. PUSHED, rather than pried, they pop right out.

I just changed mine at 52k miles, and the only time it might've been changed before was at the 15k mile service...if it wasn't changed then, it's never been changed

04 Accords V6 fits 04 TSX

For those close to a Honda dealer and not wanting to use online for less:
I noticed the Napa part # is the same for 04 v6 accord...Napa OTC about $20.+tax..

So, Picked one up at Honda for $21+ tax..(Acura is about $42 + tax). Honda's is same as in my TSX except for the little plastic strip down the middle (pleat spacer)....I know it is cheaper in the above mentioned online site but I wanted to get it done today....part #80292-sda-a01 Element 80290

Three minutes top, first time.....Honda wants $75 labor, Acura wants about $90 labor??????

Just did mine as well. Very easy to do. I just followed the instructions in the owners manual. Mine was fairly dirty, but not as bad as some of these pics. :-)

I paid 26.61 including tax and shipping. It took 11 days from the time I ordered it from Napa. (Prod # FIL4815)

I just looked at my 30K service and on the invoice it says...

1 17220-RAA-A00 ELEMENT, AIR CLEANER 28.75
1 80292-SEC-A01 ELEMENT, FILTER 52.78

Are any of those the the cabin air filter?? Or something else?

I believe 1 80292-SEC-A01 is the cabin filter
from Google

and the 1 17220-RAA-A00 is the air filter
again from Google

so i replaced the cabin filter successfully, but, in the process, broke the clip that allows the box to drop down gradually.

i don't think it'll be a problem finding the part number, but, has anyone else tried to replace it as a DIY? if so, can you provide steps? thanks.

apologies for the confusion.

i borrowed that pic from the original poster.

in my case, i've clearly broken the the hook, not the stoppers.

Looks like its held in place by a single bolt (#33). Can you get access to that bolt with the glovebox removed?
