go the B1 maintenance minder

so over the weekend i got the B1 maintenance minder. i have an 07 5AT that has under 7K miles. does this seem a little too soon? i guess i'd fall under the 'severe' schedule given that a lot of my driving is local. from what i've found, the going prices for this B1 inspection is over $100 bucks, which is kind of excessive. i was thinking of at least getting the oil change done at the local dealership (last one using dino, then switch to synthetic and do it on my own in the summer), then checking all the fluid levels and brake pads which i could do pretty easily.

but as far as the other stuff, what would you guys recommend doing? going to a local shop? diy?

B=
Replace engine oil and oil filter
Inspect front and rear brakes
Check parking brake adjustment
Inspect these items:
-Tie rod ends, steering gear box, and boots
-Suspension components
-Driveshaft boots
-Brake hoses and line (including ABS)
-All fluid levels and condition of fluids
-Exhaust system
-Fuel lines and connections
Maintainence Sub Items
1=
Rotate tires

Just did mine myself. IMO only thing you really have to do is change oil and filter.
Everything else I just looked over and everything was fine.

I usually just replace engine oil and filter and rotate tires myself.

My B1 service was only $55 at the dealership. That wasn't bad...I thought.

i just called the dealership i go to for servicing. they said $130 plus tax.

eh. i think i'll just change the oil and do everything else myself. i'm getting teins and the ingalls camber kit installed soon, so if i need any tire rotation, it'll probably be down when i get an alignment.

Got my B1 last week. it cost me a little under 200$ in total for them to tell me that they changed oil and filter and everything else is fine, with my front breaks having 85% left and rear 65% left.

Of course everything is fine I have 12 400 kms on my car !!!!

never again....

I just had them change the oil and filter. Rest of the stuff any half capable gearhead should be able to do a visual inspection of with the right instructions to follow.

Plus, fluid and brake pad check should be included at every oil change so those things you should not be charged extra for. Basically, you're paying for an oil change plus an hour of labor for them to look over your car, which most places will barely do and send you on your merry way.

At 7k miles, I would have thought you'd have A or A1. For me, I just got B1, and I have a bit over 12k miles. I got A, A1, then B1....

I'm one of the most extreme cases here though...4-mile commute of city miles only (about a red light every 2 or 3 blocks).

I just changed my oil and filter, and did a quick look over of some of the stuff. I didn't rotate my tires because they're wearing evenly, and I'm waiting for them to wear out before I go aftermarket....

see, that's the thing, i was kinda suprised how early my B1 reminder showed up. i don't know. i had my first oil change right under 4K. B1 @ 7K miles.....that just sounds weird. i hope this doesn't mean some shorter lifespan for my car.

I have the same thing with a 4-mile commute of pure city driving. I just did my second B1 at 12K. Next time I'm doing just oil and filter....

BMW's free service is sounding really attractive about now too as B1 was expensive.

can someone give a detailed write up of what to look for if there was anything that was wrong with anything included in the b1 service minder? like what should we look out for in the exhaust system? brake lines? etc etc...

I've went to my local Acura Dealer and got my oil and transmission fluid changed. They also did a 19 point check up, washed my car, and vacuumed my car. I got out with an $120 bill which is very cheap for what they did.

called my dealer and they wanted 38 for the oil change and 39 for the tire rotation which i think is a joke. much of the inspection comes with any reputable place when they do a oil change anyways. tire pressure, refill washer fluids, inspect brakes, etc.

$40 for a rotation is a rip off. If you are lazy like me, you can probably go to a tire store somewhere and pay that much for lifetime rotations.

I just took my 08 in for her first oil change(A1) which was free from the dealer I got it from, they rotated the tires too, and went ahead and put new 2009 inspection stickers on the car as well. (I got the car in Feb, and since the dealer got it last summer the inspection month is July). Topped off fluids, checked over everything, told me everything still looks new. And they washed it up nice. No charge for anything, when I think technically the only thing included was the oil/filter change and wash. And no the wash didn't scratch it up, i checked carefully.

$40.00 sounds high to me-especially if they do not balance the tires. the dealer I take my car to for service hand-washes the cars and vacuums them-they do an excellent job. Recently had my car serviced-oil change/filter, tires rotated and balanced, replaced the driver's side door panel, topped off the fluids, checked over the car-complimented me on how nice and well maintained it was. My 06 6MT, bought new 11/17/06, has almost 52,000 miles. Oh yes, price for service: FREE

It costs a lot to run a legitimate business.

$100 (or more, depending on the market) is the going rate for a minor service.
