I beat a speeding ticket once by disrputing the cop when he was reciting his "mandatory" stuff to the judge and he missed saying something he was supposed to.

I got to the hearing room and spoke to some of those lawyers hanging around trying to pick up cases. They said its a toss up either way, lawyer or no lawyer so i decided to save myself the $90. I went and sat at the first bench up close and listened as the cop went thru his mandatory "so and so" like how his gun is calibrated and how the gun works etc. I was prepping to throw out a defense about "how radar is not accurate when choosing targets." I sat and listened till it was my turn. i went to up with the cop and i puleld out my note pad and would scribble notes that i thought i needed. I asked him to repeat himself maybe 3 times cause he was talking fast and he got pretty pissed off. Guess he got sick of saying the same lines over and over again but i guess i dstracted him enough that he forgot what he was supposed to say. Needless to say i pleaded my case and the judge said i was pushing too much bs and that she was throwing out my case cause the cop messed up - - that suprised the hell outta me

Even IF the lawyer gets the ticket thrown out prepare to pay about 4-5 times what the ticket would cost you. I say be an adult and accept your punishment and mail in your fine if you cannot be there because of school. It is not supposed to be fun so as to persuade others and yourself not to speed in the first place. The best advice is to show and hope that the officer doesn't...and go the speed limit.

About messing with the speedo...ignorance is not a defense that is acceptable in court in the U.S. Even if you can prove that it was broken before the ticket it is not something that will get you off the offense you are charged with. So then you would have a broken/tampered speedo and a fine. Imagine trying to sell it with tampered guages. Not good.

They give tickets to people that do that in Colorado now.

Pulling the plug won't do it becasue you simply can't prove that you are not speeding.

The best thing to do is to pick a court date that the cop will not show up. For example, you get your ticket in 12am in the middle of the night. The cop probably has the night shift and sleeps during the day. So, pick the 12pm court. There is a bigger chance that he/she can't or won't show up.

I just think it's funny that you're trying to come up with ways to get out of something that you obviously were caught doing.. If you haven't learned your lesson after your 2 VA tickets and who knows how many SC tickets, then you deserve whatever is coming to you.. Sorry to say it..

Theres more involved in getting a ticket than the fine. Insurance record, insurance rates, points on your license. Might be worth the extra cash to avoid these things.

I understand the externalities involved, but $360/hr to fight something that you admitted being guilty of is just silly IMO.

you are still a dumb ass... and your original post doesn't mention that the idea is from a friend (which i don't buy for a second). so bite me. but please go to court with the spedo is broken excuse, so that the judge can laugh his ass off.

I read the post. It is not something I would do and I agree it is not the smartest thing to do. Calling him a dumbass is a little harsh IMO. Everyone is allowed to their own opinion.

LOL...I wouldn't say a genius. It my book it takes more to reach that level, but I picture dumbasses shitting their paints and running into doors...no, shooting themselves with their own gun...there would be a dumbass. Spatel might just be desperate to get out of the ticket that logic wasn't clicking when he asked the question. He probably is close to a suspended license.

I guess I tend to agree. But, his speedo idea brought to mind this guy:

Who said anything about breaking the speedometer...a simple removal of a fuse or harness to shut it off...you have some nerve. It wouldn't cost me a thing to fix it. I guess that shows how intellectual you are.

As for the parents comment...my own company pays for insurance and the car...just wanted to get that straight.
